May be totally unrelated, but I've noticed on the couple occasions I've parked my Mk1 at a local petrol station to buy a pie, it won't lock. It's really weird and the only place it's happened.

My usual suspect is aircon. If it left on when you put the car on to chare, it immediately deducts ~30 kilometres from the range. And it is easy to leave it on on a low setting.
Really obvious, but worth remembering ... if air con is on when you start the charge it is automatically on when you power up afterwards. That might account for the missing miles.
