battery

An electric battery is a source of electric power consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external connections for powering electrical devices.
When a battery is supplying power, its positive terminal is the cathode and its negative terminal is the anode. The terminal marked negative is the source of electrons that will flow through an external electric circuit to the positive terminal. When a battery is connected to an external electric load, a redox reaction converts high-energy reactants to lower-energy products, and the free-energy difference is delivered to the external circuit as electrical energy. Historically the term "battery" specifically referred to a device composed of multiple cells; however, the usage has evolved to include devices composed of a single cell.Primary (single-use or "disposable") batteries are used once and discarded, as the electrode materials are irreversibly changed during discharge; a common example is the alkaline battery used for flashlights and a multitude of portable electronic devices. Secondary (rechargeable) batteries can be discharged and recharged multiple times using an applied electric current; the original composition of the electrodes can be restored by reverse current. Examples include the lead-acid batteries used in vehicles and lithium-ion batteries used for portable electronics such as laptops and mobile phones.
Batteries come in many shapes and sizes, from miniature cells used to power hearing aids and wristwatches to, at the largest extreme, huge battery banks the size of rooms that provide standby or emergency power for telephone exchanges and computer data centers.
Batteries have much lower specific energy (energy per unit mass) than common fuels such as gasoline. In automobiles, this is somewhat offset by the higher efficiency of electric motors in converting electrical energy to mechanical work, compared to combustion engines.

    12V Issue

Dear colleagues, I am writing to inform you of an issue I am experiencing with my MG EV, which I purchased in 2021 and has only 48,000 kilometers on it. Yesterday, the 12V battery icon turned on, indicating a problem with the battery. I replaced the battery, but unfortunately, that did not...

    Preheat battery - Which time?

In the app it says "start time". Is this the time I start to drive or the time for the heating to start? I noticed that the set time always is one hour ahead, so my guess is that it's the time I start to drive?

    Range Waaaaay Out after service

Just had my 1st service and I picked up the car with about 50% battery and it's telling me range of over 150 miles. It's an awful long way off. Is this something others have noted and presume it will work out my range soon enough? Also I asked about software updates after and they are pretty...

    6,000 miles range possible?!!!

Something that puzzles me. Why would MG choose an axis scale that goes from -20 to +80 miles per kWh? 80 miles per kWh would give a range of 6,000 miles!!

    New owner charging query

Hi All, I am a new owner to a 2022 LR Exclusive. It has done almost 50k and has 95% battery health. It replaces a very old but reliable Skoda estate. I do an almost 70mi round trip commute. 20 mi on urban roads (with heavy traffic), 20mi on national speed limit dual carriageway and 30 mi on...

Dead battery after long time not driving

I have been in hospital for a couple of months and my 12v battery is now flat. New battery fitted very recently. I have used a jump start to move it back onto the drive. My question is will it charge if I just leave the car in ready mode after I jump start? If so how long will it take to charge...

    12 volt battery replacement query

The 'resting' voltage on my battery is now down to 12.1V so, coupled with the low battery message when the accessories phase is on for more than a few minutes, I feel it is time for a new one (car is 4 years old with original battery) The easy option would have been to pop down to Halfords but...

Fast charging and Low Voltage battery warning?

Hello guys. Sorry if this question was asked and answered earlier (please merge threads in such case or just delete). But i have one question. Charge Overrunning

I use the scheduled charging on my Zappi to only charge between 00:30 and 05:30. 12V battery misconception

Hi MG community. Another question, I have an MG4 Trophy LR 73 plate, UK. The salesman told me charging my phone, and heating the steering wheel and seat were all powered through the 12V battery. I haven't seen any written evidence of this, so can anyone shine a light on this for me? I am...

    Better alternative to miles/kWh?

Why not display miles travelled per battery % used (M/%U) rather than M/kWh? Then the remaining range displayed can be a calculation of M/%U x remaing_battery_% (M/%R) ? Much simpler and in my experience, accurate. Thoughts?
