2nd service

Re 2nd year service cost, I was quoted £199 by the supplying dealer. This included brake fluid change and key battery. I declined both, so the service has just cost me £105! Very happy with that. Blights Motors, Bideford, Devon
Good to know, we are local to them.

Just rang around the different garages nearby (with 1 battery full of charge to get there), and the prices are wildly different:

Drive (WSM) - £236
Baylis (Gloucester) - £351.79
Blight (Bideford) - £199 (I agree with the above!)
Nathaniel MG (Cwmbran) - £304.70

A surprising spread of £152, you decide!!!!!!!

Can anyone beat the lower price near Bristol??

I have been quoted £311.64 from RRG Stockport. And that is without:
Corrosion inspection: +£13.20
Pollen filter: +£45.00 !
Brake fluid: +£49.99

That would be a total of £419.83

They are having a laugh 🤣

So, what happens, warranty wise, if you decline some option on the a-la-carte menu? Does the paintwork / corrosion warranty still apply if you've declined the corrosion inspection?

I’ve just been quoted £926 for a 4 year service plan.

This seemed OK (certainly not cheap!) - see picture - but given some of the above posts I’m now not sure!

TBH, if it doesn’t offer great value, what’s the point, I may as well PAYG?!

Why is the fourth year £150 more than the second when it's the same service requirements?

I don't think it's the same...

Special Maintenance Items
1 Electric drive transmission fluid Replace every 96,000 km.
2 Brake fluid Replace every 2 years.
3 Coolant Replace every 4 years or 96,000 km or 60,000 miles whichever is sooner.

edited to add, sounds like a bargain then with @siteguru's transmission fluid too!

If it helps, when we purchased ours 18 months ago, we went with a 5yr service plan inc 3 MOT (seeing the warranty is longer, a monthly payment to keep things going is fine)

year on year the price covered by the plan changed lots, 1yr/10k miles (but should cover up to 15k)
1 £98
2 £179
3 £98
4 £203
5 £250

and the MOTs for £55ea

£18 a month, and nothing to worry about for the forseeable, may find it cheaper, but as others are saying, may also find it more expensive!

Now I could go for that. But my quote just seems a tad high.

Was that from the dealer or on the website?

I also want to make sure it is an ‘any dealer’ plan, as I’ve got mine through carwow, finding the cheapest nearby dealer (which has saved me thousands)

@DelBoy My first service on an MG4 SE LR in March 2024 at Bristol North was only £62.01, although my mileage is relatively low. So I was surprised they then quoted £236.30 for the second service - which they said covers changing the pollen filter and key fob batteries, applying any software updates needed, and a number of checks that all seem pretty basic and wouldn't take more than a few minutes on the diagnostics. They then said if I wanted the brake fluid done as well it would be £315.30 - that seems like a heck of a jump - looking on the MG website the non-brake fluid service relates to the low mileage (max 10k miles per year) service schedule. This is similar to the experience I had with my Renault Zoe - first service was good value, second was a massive jump that seemed to reflect the dealer trying to monetize the service cost massively to bring it into line with ICE service costs, although the scope of the service in an EV is much less.

Best price I've found so far is Eden Swindon £195 including brake fluid change - that's an easier drive from Bristol/Bath too.
I am waiting to get a price from Bath MG - difficult to get in touch with them, but they are my local dealer
I'm waiting to hear back from Islington MG Trowbridge as they quoted £249 including brake fluid change, but as my mileage is under 20k I am in the low mileage bracket for which brake fluid change is only 'recommended'.

Hello,

In Portugal, my 2nd service was 335€ (MG4 SE)
  • Annual Service - 124,50€
  • Brake Fluid - 38,00€
  • Pollen filter - 30,00€
  • Updates 1100R38 and SC077 - 54,00€ (SC077 free of charge)
  • Eco tax - 6,00€
  • AC cleaning - 20,00€
  • PLUS VAT - 62,50€

PS: it took 2 days to make all the updates :)

Mine was online, selecting Nottingham as my dealer (who I purchased the car through, and knocked them down close enough to a local CarWoW quote.

As mentioned it was 18 months ago, so prices may have crept up, but that gives a good indication of the year to year differences.

@DelBoy Bath MG has quoted £282.34 for second service including brake fluid change. Looks like I'll be booking in at Eden MG Swindon.

£240 from Bristol MG but £140 from Cleevely plus whatever they need to do - they only change brake fluid if necessary after testing. They confirm manufacturer's warranty is unaffected. As I've done under 12,000 miles I don't expect there will be much. No software updates unfortunately, but at some point I might contact the dealer about those separately.

So do we have to pay for the software updates as we go along then? A shame you can’t connect to WiFi and just download it yourself!

You can unofficially there is a thread about it on here. It would all be solved with the advertised OTA feature unfortunately it isn't enabled due to the crappy unreliability of MG software

I've finally been able to get onto the MG website, and it doesn't seem to matter where I try to buy the servicing plan for (all over the country including some of those that have been quoted as much cheaper), the 4/year plan with 1/MOT is always coming out at £926.49!
