Put my SD 5 in for it's first service today and the KERs brake recall. Was told that they will also be updating the roof bars to carry load as per the LR 5??

I think the recall is just to update the manual to say that you can now carry 35Kg. (assuming it's an exclusive).

When I had my KERS update I asked for the slip in my manual for the roof bars and they didnt have a clue and I never got one.

Aren't you driving the long range? That one was always 75Kg. I think they learned their lesson after the first time round....

Kers 3 update included a piece of paper to cut to size and pritt stick into the manual showing the exclusive bars will take 35kg

I bought mine in late Dec (5SR) and I have been told there are no outstanding recalls but the manual was not updated. So I’m assuming the KERS update is done. How would I know for sure?

When it's dark go out for a short drive Put it in kers 3 drive at around 40mph, assuming that's the max speed limit for the road! Then take your foot off the throttle and look at the back window using the rear view mirror and if it's been done you'll see the high level brake light come on.

Tested. The light doesn't come on. Tried at different speeds, all in KERS3. Looks like my dealer tried to bypass it. Looks like I'll be making a call to my leasing company.

Got mine (LR) just a week or so ago and was told no update needed as already done at the factory. I've only been out once in the dark so far and I didn't see the lights come on. I will check again next time, but I suspect it will need doing.

Gomez, I got mine in Dec. I didn't bother asking at collection time as I assumed it had been done. I was out in the dark last night and the brake lights were definitely not triggered by the KERS(3). But then I've said before that the braking on mine really doesn't feel as fierce as others here describe.

I was told that the KERS will not be as strong when the battery is full - mine was at about 85% last night.

I'm not that bothered as it's definitely no more forceful than the old Ampera, which also didn't display lights, and no-one hit me in the years I had it, and I didn't see any reports of that from anyone else on the forum.

Mmm this seems to be quite common from MG dealers in saying the update will have been done at the factory or the port. Got mine end of Dec and no light coming on under KERS3. Dealers are either clueless or just don't want the overhead in doing the work. Maybe it's an MG thing.

Actually, thinking about that, I wonder how long these things are at sea? I can't remember when the recall was actually announced but if they are on the slow boat from China for say four weeks then there could be a load which would have to be done on arrival - and with no easy way (apart from testing) for us (so maybe them too) to tell if the update has been done, they just don't do it during the PDI.

Mind you, as I said, I doubt mine brakes harshly enough to trigger the brakes.

My dealer Luscombes has been very good. If they put it on the computer and it says no updates due, then it's fair for them to say so. My guess is that there are some VIN numbers that are not on the recall list as the cars hadn't been sold when the recall went out.
I will check again but am fairly confident it will need doing. but whether/how they can force the update when the car says it doesn't need it is another thing. :)
