I've been using a Carlinkit 5.0 for the best part of a year and it's been reasonable; once you set the "startup delay" to 25 or 30 seconds and make sure you've updated the firmware it works 90% of the time which for me was OK - my wife was less impressed with the occasional dropout and so I investigated other options.
If we ever tried to change which 'phone was connected mid journey then it was game over! We got pretty sick of seeing that status display with both of our 'phones listed but neither connecting.

I got a Lyssiefeel Wireless Carplay Adapter for iPhone a couple of weeks ago (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CZLFRSL6) - not much bigger than a USB thumb-drive and works so much better (chepaer than the CarLink as well). I found you still have to set a startup delay (thirty seconds to be sure) but aside from that it has worked faultlessly with my wife's iPhone X and my iPhone 12. One other thing is that it will not work if your 'phone is bound to the MG's Infortainment system over Bluetooth, but once you're setup you'll never bother with that anyway. It really has been jump-in and moment later you can hit play and the last tune/podcast you were listening to on your 'phone is playing and the map is animating.

How will does it handle multiple iPhones?
If we're travelling together and it connects to the wrong one we put that 'phone into airplane mode and after a few seconds it connects to the other 'phone and then we take the first 'phone out of airplane mode and it's all good.

Smashing thank you. I have a Carlinkit 4.0 and it works fairly reliably (start up delay set to 30secs) but on occasion it throws a wobbly and I know my wife would not want the faff so whenever she takes the car she reverts to wired. I might give this a whirl ?

Hi, Can you tell me how to set the 30sec delay. I have Carlinkit 4.0 but unsire how you change or get to settings on it. Thanks.

If you look at the manual, available here you will find the instructions. Basically you connect the Carlinkit unit then open your iPhone web browser and enter http://192.168.50.2 into the address bar. That will load up the Carlinkit unit settings page.

That's great help, did this and now set to 30 sec delay and connects every time now as well as my phone to car's Bluetooth. Thanks.

A question....

With Prime day next week I will be looking for a Carlinkit.

Is it better to not to pair your phone with the car at all and just rely on the Android Auto / Carlinkit for phone calls etc.

Interesting to note, even though everything in the listing says about CarPlay and nothing about AA. :)

I have found Carlinkit is much more reliable if the phone is not paired to the car at all.
As others have said, program the Carlinkit with a 30 second delay for best results.

I’ve now tried the device from post #1 and have a Carlinkit 5.0. Posted elsewhere about the 5.0.

The 5.0 often gives me a black screen that comes to life when I swipe it. I miss notifications when driving if I’m on the Home Screen due to the black screen appearing rather than the CarPlay screen. Swiping the screen to get CarPlay to appear tends to dismiss the notification.

The Lyssiefeel device about 80% of the time works perfectly. Other times, black screen which does not come to life. Either a reboot of the screen is required or need to unplug and reinsert the device after 30 seconds or so.

Both devices are set to delay start. 60s gives me time to turn off the LKA and set the front collision to alert.

I’m assuming the intermittent black screens are going to be an issue with MG’s CarPlay integration in software R40.

Do later infotainment versions solve it?

Tried with Carlink 3 and got a black screen. Returned to the dealer (amazon). Then, after reading this post, bought Carlink 4 and same behaviour, unfortunately. Both configure with 30sec delay and even 60sec delay, and last firmware.
I tried with Iphone 13 and Iphone 15, first pairing goes fine, but nexts, I got the black screen for both.

I guess will try with the device from post #1, but this is really frustrating...

[WORKING] After more than 2 weeks testing, I can confirm that, for me, the Lyssiefeel Adaptador works much better than Carlilnk.

Me and my wife sharing the car and, hence, using alternatively Carplay with Lyssiefeel. My conclusions:
  1. The adaptator connects perfectly to the same phone it was connected the last time. Meaning that, if I was the last one driving, it will connect again with my Iphone next time perfectly (I would say 95% but just to give it a low error chance)
  2. If my wife was the last driver (last connection) most of the times I have to unplug and plug after starting the car. Then, it connects perfectly to my Iphone. Not big issue comparing with Carlinkg, which didn't connect at all.
Delay in the start is 10sec, but didn't notice any difference even starting with no delay.

Here's the amazon link for Spain, similar to the one provided by FunkyWorm . Additionally, less than 50% price of Carlink, what else? ;-)

Sound great - just ordered two, as would be good option for my Leon's wired CarPlay as well ?
