A wireless carplay adaptor that actually seems to work reliably?!

I have an Ottocast and a Carlink 5, and I bought one of these. I can confirm that it always works, as long as you account for the 30-second delay. The only thing that doesn't work is the music information on the MG's screen, but that was also a hit or miss feature on the others. At least this one works 100% of the time, with no black screens or the need to disconnect and reconnect the cable.

Do you leave the adapter plugged into the USB port or disconnect it when it's not needed?

The reason I ask is my USB port is still active 2 or 3 hours after locking the car. I know this because if I walk past the locked car my phone comes up with the notification that Android Auto is connected.

Have 2 of these.

Honestly bought to try as a cheap solution, and expecting alot of trouble.
however have both versions for carplay and android auto (dont ask!).

Both versions are extremely reliable, I do disconnect when not needed.
probably takes around 10-15 seconds to boot up and connect to screen.

Thanks I've taken a punt on the AA one as currently only £10

A question....

With Prime day next week I will be looking for a Carlinkit.

Is it better to not to pair your phone with the car at all and just rely on the Android Auto / Carlinkit for phone calls etc.
I ordered a second different box from AliExpress when I couldn't get the first working. I found that the problem was that my phone was connected to the car. Removing that connection before setting up the CarPlay and it now works almost every time. Occasionally have to manually connect the phone bluetooth.

I found the Quadlock Carplay dongle works flawlessly for me. You have to go into the settings to delay start-up by 20 secs, but since I've done that it works great. The compact size allowed me to stick it up under the little floating shelf and out of the way with some double sides tape.

I've been using a Carlinkit 5.0 for the best part of a year and it's been reasonable; once you set the "startup delay" to 25 or 30 seconds and make sure you've updated the firmware it works 90% of the time which for me was OK - my wife was less impressed with the occasional dropout and so I investigated other options.
If we ever tried to change which 'phone was connected mid journey then it was game over! We got pretty sick of seeing that status display with both of our 'phones listed but neither connecting.

I got a Lyssiefeel Wireless Carplay Adapter for iPhone a couple of weeks ago (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CZLFRSL6) - not much bigger than a USB thumb-drive and works so much better (chepaer than the CarLink as well). I found you still have to set a startup delay (thirty seconds to be sure) but aside from that it has worked faultlessly with my wife's iPhone X and my iPhone 12. One other thing is that it will not work if your 'phone is bound to the MG's Infortainment system over Bluetooth, but once you're setup you'll never bother with that anyway. It really has been jump-in and moment later you can hit play and the last tune/podcast you were listening to on your 'phone is playing and the map is animating.

I totally understand your frustration! My wife and I were tired of messing with wireless CarPlay adapters that didn’t work well with our MG EV. We tried a few options, but nothing seemed to connect reliably or without lag—until we found the AutoSky Wireless CarPlay Adapter. Honestly, it’s been a game-changer. Setup was super simple—just plug it in, pair your phone, and now it connects automatically every time we get in the car. No more delays or dropped connections—it works great for us!

If you’re looking for the best wireless CarPlay adapter, this is it. My wife and I love how quick and reliable it is.

That's the same one as I have ... I set mine for a 40s start up delay and it works every time. I suppose I could go in and reduce that to 30s, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. :)

After some mixed experiences with CarLinkit 4.0, I bought this on AliExpress:
Looks similar to the Lyssiefeel, but cheaper. Set up with 30 second delay. Don’t pair phone to MG4, ‘forget ‘ any previous Bluetooth with car. Cost me around £12 and so far works every time.
After months of hassle with bluetooth dropping I have been dithering for months about getting a Carlinkit 5air, even when the price for Black Friday dropped from £90 to £55 I still did not take the plunge, but after reading yours and Siteguru I thought "why not, it's only £8.21 (9.85 with Taxes etc)"

So one is on its way.

The instructions are in Chinglish but are easy enough to understand. You need to connect to it first with it simply plugged in to a power source - not the car or a computer. This lets you do the firmware update and then do the necessary config. After that connection in the car is very easy. :)

Same here. I bought a somewhat expensive one from Amazon for Au$70 (35 quid) and it worked fine without any adjustment of "start delay" so I figured I may as well buy a $20 (10 quid) unit from Ali for our other MG4.
It needed the delay set before it worked smoothly but once done, works just fine with my wife's iPhone in her car.
My phone is a Pixel running Android Auto.

Just out of curiosity, did you have to have your phone forget the car Bluetooth to get it to work reliably?

Not with my android phone and the more expensive but still "cheap" dongle from Amazon.
I don't recall with the really cheap unit from Ali Express that is in my wife's car with her iPhone.

No. And when I got my new phone I simply paired it with the device ... and the car and phone automatically paired anyway. Still working fine. :)

I have had the Lyssiefeel Wireless Carplay Adapter for iPhone for about four months. Occasionally it will freeze or drop out, but not often. If it does freeze whilst driving i simply reset the infotainment by holding the home button for ten seconds and it reconnects fine immediately.

I am happy with it.

I put a 30 second delay on the adaptor in the settings.
