AA wireless dongle

Mine doesn't, but I have a short angled USB to USB C lead, that allows the lid to close with the lead out the front corner to the AA box in the phone slot on the front housing

Unfortunately not; mine lives in the centre console pocket on the passenger side.

I couldn't get it to work with my MG ZS EV. It paired with my phone, but nothing from the car. Sent it back.

No you do not have to use a wire to play audio through the car speakers. A simple bog standard bluetooth connection is all you need. The wire is only needed if you want to use Android Auto, but I see no point in that. Very few useful (to me) apps work with it - it is basically a techno-****.

I personally much prefer to see google maps on the central screen. I agree that AA should be much more useful but the functionality it has is well worth its place.

Is the dongle WiFi or Bluetooth ?
The reason I ask is that if it's Bluetooth, wouldn't it interfere with the Bluetooth connection to the phone for calls and media ?
My phone only allows one Bluetooth device connection at a time.

I bought the Carlinkit 5 from Aliexpress recently ( it was under £35) and have been very pleasantly surprised. It seems to be rock solid in terms of connection. It starts up really fast, after the very first boot up which took ages. It actually uses Bluetooth and WiFi. I'm guessing but I suspect that Bluetooth is used to initiate the connection and then the data moves using WiFi. Everything seems to work exactly as before but without the regular disconnections I used to get.

Simple answer Yes I had an early AA Dongle (in fact, I still have it). It worked brilliantly and solved all the issues I had with mobile phone compatibility with my 1st Gen ZS when using a cable connection.

I have an AA unit but I do find I have to clear the memory/cache in android auto every now and then to get it to reconnect

Yes the AAWireless to give the dongle its full name is the one I have and used without a hitch. I have called it such in previous posts on other threads on the forum.

I have this which works well for wireless AA. Comes with a short usb lead so was able to place under centre console with velcro tape. Add bonus of being able to connect to the cars hotspot to watch Netflix and play music or film files from a sd card. Hope its ok to add the below pic

What would be the point? I don't have the car yet, but I understood the phone needs to be cabled to the car for Android Auto. So instead you have this cable, and don't have to plug the phone in? Does it give extra functionality?

The dongle allows the android auto to communicate wirelessly to the car. Plugs into the USB port. Works fantastically. Get in the car, wait until end of boot sequence and phone Co belt to car when you select android auto on infinity system.

Mine is often connected before I start the car. I think it powers up when I unlock the doors and by the time I am in the seat it is often waiting for me.
