Alarm woes

Have I got this completely wrong?? I thought that if I locked the car using the key fob, that set the alarm...

My rear windscreen was smashed and my charging cable stolen and the alarm did not go off! Can anyone help?

By the way, if you weren't already aware, parcel shelves and charging cables are the new targets for thieving scrotes...

There are no ultrasonic sensors so the car would be unaware anything had happened!

Might be wrong, but don't some cars have sensors that detect if a window is broken? Wonder why mg didn't include that.

The doors boot / hatch and bonnet are linked to the alarm system, when it is armed by locking the doors from the fob, the alarm will then sound only when one of these items are compromised / breached.
The cabin area etc, is only protected via this type of basic system, linked to monitoring the afore mentioned areas.
So in theory, if you forced entry into an already armed vehicle,( glass ) without opening one of the above entry points, then the alarm would not be triggered !.
E.G. - Proof of theory could be tested ?.
Before leaving the car, drop the drivers window, then power down the car, leave and lock it with the fob.
The alarm is then automatically armed when you lock the car.
As the window is now fully open you could therefore reach in / enter via this open window without triggering the alarm !.
But remember the immobiliser is still activated !.
The alarm works by utilising the switches in the doors / boot and bonnet.
