Not an MG
Just to briefly say I will be trading in my lovely MG5 pre-facelift Executive this week for different EV.

I am getting a Hyundai Kona Ultimate, not brand new, the old shape just over a year old.

The reason for this is not because I don't love my 5, I do, it's great and will probably be great forever if James from Cleevely's is right. My 5 has been practically perfect in every way as Mary P might say and will be missed.

I just need something a little higher/easier for getting in and out. Both me and missus are not getting any younger and it's only when you get in and out of some other cars that you realise just how low the 5 is. Not helped I guess by me having the seat in its lowest position too. :)

I am still going to take the car in for the 'Tesla' update tomorrow (May 7th) as hopefully this will provide further info for others on the forum. However if they want paying for it, I will of course decline now, I would have paid if I was going to keep it.

Now with my 5 going I will no longer need the full sized spare wheel and tyre (original matching alloy) or the unused mint condition space saver wheel. So these will be going on the classified for sale board soon. I also have an unused MG OEM touch up paint in Piccadilly Blue.

I enjoy looking and contributing on here so intend to maintain my interest as who knows what MG may tempt me with in the future.

You seem to like your MG5, but I can understand it being to low. Was the ZS EV
Not an option? Good luck with your Kona, nice motor. ??

Another person getting the Tesla update. I am so jealous. All of the 3 dealerships within my range all deny it exists. Their database says my car has all updates installed. To be fair, I had a tesla network I passed 3 times a week. It was one of the trial ones and worked without any problems for 5 months until Tesla found out and stopped it.
I wouldn't need it except for 3 weeks away this summer in N Wales. The place I stay at was to have 4 x 7kW chargers fitted by the local council by Christmas but though the occasion was announced the year was not. Work has not begun yet.

I just sit on the seat first then bring my head into the car by lowering my head (seat at highest level and I am 5' 11") Then swing my legs into car. No problems despite ongoing back problems) so not changing because of this and well happy with MG5 Fl.

Bye

I'm going nowhere and nor is my experience with MG EVs. I may even be able to help with any queries you may have in future. :)

PS I hope you found the owners manual and you found it useful on the MG owners page I linked for you in a previous post.
Dark Star, an interesting little brewery.

Dont you threaten us :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I hope the Kona lives up to expectations, please do let us know how it compares etc.

Good luck

J
Cheers John :)
I've had the Kona for just over 2 weeks and about 300 miles. I will update with my thoughts once I've done more, but my immediate impression is that I can't believe the efficiency/economy of the thing. I'm getting miles/kWh never dreamt about, without even trying.

hows the cabin/boot space compared to the MG5 ?
My local dealer Richmond has some nicely priced 23 plt used ones in stock around £23/4k and happens to be my MG dealer as well ??

If you need space the Kona is not for you, though this has been rectified in the new 2024 Kona. This is something that I was slightly hesitant about when thinking about the change. Rear passenger space is not great with the front seat back, in fact I would consider it a 3+1 for us. No way an adult passenger is going to fit in behind me, although plenty of room behind the missus :) .
Boot space is not huge, less than the 5 by some way, I'm sure the figures are out there somewhere, but enough for 2 suitcases and a bit.
Initially I would have preferred the e-Niro as that would have given the space, but they stopped at approx 2021 although some 2022 about. These are also a lot more expensive on a like for like (variant and mileage) basis than the Kona.
We eventually decided that as there are only the 2 of us and the number of times we have passengers is few we could quite easily mange with the smaller rear cabin and boot space. Obviously this would not be the same for everyone.
NB For context, we bought the Ultimate version (top of the range), e-Niro equivalent is the 4+
