Very interesting (OK OK I need to get out more) issue.

There are two USB connectors in the car. A USB A which is used for Android auto/Car-play and a USB C which is used for charging a phone.

I have a MY24 model. The USB C did not charge mine or my wife's phones. the conclusion was that phones running android 15 or the latest IOS version (whatever that is) have trouble charging using USB C, however, it will charge phones with not the latest software.

If you can please check this that would be a nice-to-know.

Below is the whole story.

I was at MG and we couldn't work out what is going on. At first they said you are wrong and the guy had an old iphone with a very old cable. Connecting his phone to the USB C showed it charging. Since my android phone has USB C connector I couldn't use his cable (apple connector). So I used my cable and it would NOT charge my phone. Of course they said it is my cable and gave me a lecture on how I should use good cables etc etc. There was a Tesla next to me so I suggested we test my cable. Went to that car and my phone using my cable charged perfectly well. Then the guy brought another Samsung Android phone and that would not charge. They went and bought a USB C to USB C cable and tried it. It would not charge my phone or the other Samsung. So someone produced two more Samsung Phones. They would charge !!! Then someone had the latest iphone with USB C connection (EU rules) and that would not charge. So they start blaming my phone's Android software. I had to point out that I have a Pixel phone which is from Google and therefore most original Android you can get. Then someone remembered that there was a customer whose iphone would not connect to the Cyberster and MG had told them his software was outdated on the phone. So suddenly they said may be MG's software is not up-to-date with the latets android and ios. This is now under investigation.

Are yours new phones with native A15 IOS18 etc.?

I don't think the issue is the OS version - it's the power requirements of newer phones.

Old phone pixel 6A but it has the latest Android 15. The iphone didn't charge either. So may be it is power requirement but that would be even worse because that would be hardware issue.

I am hoping we have so many people on this forum that we can do the experiments and find the answer

FWIW I use a wireless AA adapter in the USB A socket, and have a 12V USB adapter in the "lighter" socket that has 2x USB A outlets (rated at 2A and 1A). If I need to charge my Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus then I simply plug it into the 2A outlet, otherwise it stays in my pocket. :)

I have exactly the same setup. But, We have this USB C and it should be working. We have paid for it. We should all check it.

We have an MY23 Essence 77 aka Trophy ER and an MY24 Excite 51 aka SE SR. The USB C outlet powers our phones just fine. I have a Pixel 9 Pro and used to have an 8 Pro. My wife has used a iPhone 12, 13 & 14,

I also have one of these left over from my previous car which is plugged in the 12V socket but never had to use it so far.

Have an Android AI unit in USB socket A, and a USB C-C lead in socket B. No problems charging my phone (Android 14), but when initially got car had lots of problems with charging which was solved by buying good quality leads. That said, they were leads recommended on this forum as ones that worked reliably.
