I have a Samsung S10+ a great phone and it has a 256gb SD card with all my music on so the other day we set off into the lakes for a good day out (mentioned elsewhere re range issues) I was running the Poweramp app to play the music via Android Auto & it was just playing on shuffle and all morning it was faultless, then about 1 pm it started acting up for some reason, anyway I just shut it off it was not playing musing but showed the play icon so you press it and it starts scrolling through titles stops and you have to start again but it wasn't playing anything.

I also have the same selection of songs on a thumb drive but of course, there is only one USB socket that is connected to Android Auto (WHY when it has a USB C socket too) so I bought the USB splitter below as it actually mentions car in the description so I tried to have to connect to the phone on one end and the drive on the other but no matter which way it was connected together or singly nothing came through AA so I had to abandon that, I checked the splitter on my laptop and it works fine so it's the car at fault it seems, no use for a splitter so back to Amazon it goes.

Poweramp is gone, and I've installed VLC.

It appears that AA and Google have issues regarding playing music, I've not tried VLC in the car yet but will report if there are any problems.

Any workarounds you have will be greatly appreciated

Now that is interesting, thank you very much.

I didn't think that would work at all.

I've gone for a tiny cable one so the ports don't get tugged on by the bosses unknowing hands looking for a pound coin for the trolley.

I just went out to the shops and had my phone with me so I connected it up and started VLC which is supposed to work, but not very well, it did play music, but I tried everything to force it to change track, all I could get was volume, pause and play unless I used the phone itself.

I use Rocket Player with AA as I've had it for years and bought the pro version - works great. (When RP had an issue for a while - wouldn't read my phone's SD card - I switched to using Musicolet and that worked fine with AA too. I've never tried VLC on my phone).

The cable arrived just now, so I went down to the car to try it out, being dumb big lugs I thought it wasn't going to work, I'd plugged it correctly.

I got nothing, despite repeating the exercise, eventually the penny dropped and I had music.
One hadn't thought to press the AA icon, and then it populated and played.

I didn't think to try it but will it also pick up Google maps with no problems and just work with both?

I have reinstalled PowerAmp onto the phone but it's not loaded, could that be a problem?

Only the music on the usb stick will be picked up on usb c A auto only works on usb a
Port you have to leave it a bit when plugged in to short it self out iv got a wire less adapter in the usb port a I use for a auto make sure the phone is not connected to Bluetooth on car as the wireless adapter will not work also if you have a smart watch make sure it’s not connected for calls as when you make a call it goes to phone not car

I'm being a bit thick this morning (again) could you make that more clearer for an old fart struggling with the tech, I'd go mess in the car but the boss has the car today and tomorrow all day, she may have a lover, well I can live in hope :D :D

I did get it to play music, after waiting a while I finally pressed AA and it picked it up.

I do have a BT smart watch but I hate the damned thing so it stays on my bedside table for seeing the time in the middle of the night, I'd prefer a nice ticking clock as I sleep better listening to my life ticking away, but SWMBO won't have it, dunno why, she's deaf as a post and wears ear plugs, she says I snore, yup I do but so does the other person in the room, Wimmin eh

I do use the BT for the phone for incoming and outgoing calls, and I intend to utilise Google maps.

If I can do that, and she can plug in her fruit based phone I think we're good.

Android Auto needs to be connected to your (Android) phone via the left USB A (bigger) port ... the left port is the only one which will support AA (or Apple CarPlay). If you're then back on the main home screen, if you cycle between the music sources the AA option will be in the list.

The right port only supports a USB pendrive (like you have connected in your earlier photo) and this will also appear in the sources list when connected.

Sorry, I took it that would be a given.

Yes, the phone will when needed for Google Maps be attached to the left port, I assume the BT will handle calls & texts (which it reads out on request) like that bit.

My query is that if I am using the right hand USB C port to play music via AA, will it be able to use Google Maps in the left USB port simultaneously?

I wish I had the time and ability to just go out and test, but the car is rarely here when I'm up to going down to it, hence my possibly odd questions.

If it's anything like the MG4, the answer is Yes. Start music playing from the pendrive then open AA and start maps navigation. You should still be able to use the right hand joystick (I assume the MG3+ has these left and right joysticks?) to toggle left/right to skip back/forward between tracks, and up/down to raise/lower the volume, without having to go back to the home screen to make changes.

Yes the MG3 has them, best part of the car as the screen is not a good thing to mess with when in motion.

I'll go look later if I'm allowed.

She's okay really, we just both have a lot going on right now, roll on Sunday when we can escape up Scotlandshire for a bit of R&R.

I snuck down to the car this morning braving a hell of a storm we live at 980 feet so it's windy here almost all the time, but the conservatory was getting a right old bashing from flying debris.

Anyhoo, the stick was already connected so I plugged in the phone and nothing, then the Greatest hits radio show came on, Hmm, Boss doesn't like my music (bonus) so she'd figured out how to get the music off and radio on.

So off with the radio, press the mike button to wake up Google Maps, then turn AA on to select USB music, all working, so one happy bunny now.

So thanks again Mr Guru, Well named.
