I thought these items had no adverse affect due to their power being supplied by the auxillary battery/ies and not the main motor's battery ?

They may be 12 volt systems, and are thus fed by the same power bus the 12V battery is on, but they would drain that battery very quickly. The inverter provides the 12V power when the car is in READY mode (or pre-heat), in the same way an alternator does on an IC car.

Mine, with heatpump, has a steep increase in consumption at the very beginning of the trip, then consumption smooth out at +1,5-2 kWh/100km more then in summer. Given winter tires seems ok.
On my daily commute that is 14,5 vs 12,5 going and 16,5 vs 14,5 returning home.
The spike at the beginning of the trip can reach up to 22-23 kWh/100km.
I guess is caused by battery heating trying to push the battery up to 15°C.

Technically, it's the DC-DC converter that charges the 12 V battery and/or supplies the 12 V loads. An inverter is generally a DC to AC converter.

People often come to a forum for information (sometimes before purchasing) but also to get help with issues they have. This can sometimes give the impression that there are lots of problems when, in fact, happy owners, just get on and enjoy their cars without feeling any need to discuss them. Which leaves a disproportionately large proportion of threads posted here being about problems. So let's ask the question.

The car is fine, but I am not happy with MG motors as a company. I have a small issue which the dealer hasn't been able to resolve and so far MG have ignored both a letter to their Marylebone Road address and an email to customer services. Have others had similar experiences, and is this poor customer relations something which could be discussed in the Podcast?

The PTC heater is fed from the HV battery as it is rated up to 7kW on full blast. (Although it'll never run at 7kW continuous).

A range drop in winter is inevitable, but I don't get anything like a 50% drop - and I have the SE SR with the LFP pack, and LFP seems more temperature sensitive than NMC.

25% drop at worst, usually more like 20%. But then it wasn't absolutely arctic last winter, and members from Finland were squealing a bit louder!

Your profile suggests you've been around the block a few times on here, but haven't you noticed the high volume screaming about MG customer service from all quarters?

Just a short note to say that I am having a lovely time with my MG4. Now that i can disable the poor little ELK (aka LKA) from the drop down menu everything is fine apart from needing to frequently repair my phone. ACC could be better but I suspect a software update at some point will fix it. I have growing understanding and confidence in the cars ability to get me where I need to go and so far Tesla have conveniently put affordable chargers in the right place for long journeys. I was bothered by my AC but now I have the hang of it and know how to keep nice and cosy.

Well the party continues. Number 2 Service today; duplicating what I posted on the software updates thread "we will only do non recall software updates on warranty claims". So no improvements or updates for me, evidently 5 pages of notes aren't enough. Other things I brought up before the service:
  • Defective door button; no can do as it worked every time they tried it.
  • Bulging undertray; its not bulging enough to fix it
  • Dash blisters; not covered after 1st year of warranty
HV Battery State of Health 90% after 2 years and 14353 miles.

That SoH is poor for a NMC battery pack ... even my LFP pack is 93% after 2 years. (Was 95% last year, so the deg is tailing off). Did they read the wrong value? (i.e. SoC rather than SoH)

I have no idea. I didn't get the printout, they just said 90% when I asked for the SoH.

I look after the battery, keeping it in the 40-80% band with occasional balance charges as directed. Its only been on ultra rapid chargers 8 times in that period too.

The SoH does sound low. My Trophy was at 98% at it's second service after 21000 miles. I have had it on 150kW+ chargers loads of times (I'm guessing around 50 but it could be more).

My 4 is to the dealer for some updates, they can't complete those because of some connettivity issues with MG servers.
Update will take one more day.
Replacement car is a petrol seat ibiza.
I allready miss my 4 so much.

Damn... how they made to put such a glitchy software in a car so good to drive is beyond me.

They have to put some serious work on both coding and backend infrastructure.

I got a Hyundai i10 as my courtesy car (Drive do Hyundai and MG), it was a nice little thing, I'm not gonna lie, I missed the grunt of the MG4. However, despite the i10 being a the latest model (2 months old) I was heartened to see it had physical buttons for the HVAC controls, heated seats and heated steering wheel. The infotainment system booted immediately only stopping to ask me to verify it was allowed to access my phone for CarPlay.

My relative has a Renault Megane etech EV, to me it has the perfect blend of touchscreen and physical buttons.
Buttons for heating/AC, seats, steering wheel etc.
Big button for drive mode
Paddles for regen on and off
Physical button for LKA

And the system is full Google so really responsive

I had a phase 2 Trophy as a courtesy car for a few days. I was still glad to get back in my SE SR, and I have absolutely no idea why. I wonder if the steering had been set to be heavier or something?

What driving mode do you usually use in the SE, and what did you set it to in the Trophy? I use ECO and am now accustomed to the very light steering.
