Travelling down the A45 in a 60 mph zone just before Birmingham Airport there is a slip road which had 40 mph signs up.

The automatic speed limiter in my car saw the 40 mile power speed sign on the slip road and applied the brakes immediately slowing me down from 60 to 40 causing panic to the car behind me and almost causing a rear end collision.

I was continuing on the A45, so the speed limit did not apply but the car could not tell the difference. If the government insists on implementing EU regulations that states all cars must have automatic speed limiting systems then those systems need to be fit for purpose.

Unfortunately, the system in the ZS is far from fit for purpose.

The system is set up to react if driver fails to react. My ZS braked suddenly when it detected me driving too fast into the rear of the car in front that was turning left whilst I waned to squeeze past it without slowing down ... yes, I know I can squeeze but the car doesn't know what I know and had to react... likewise, if you were going 60 into 40 speed limit, the car thinks you failed to see the sign ...

The point of the thread is that I wasn’t going into a 40mph zone, it was the slip road that was 40 and I was staying on the main road.

I see, I thought you were turning off ... if the 40 mph sign is that close to the main road that the camera cached it than that needs to be reported to the highway authorities or whoever is in charge of that road - not safe!

The 40 mph sign like the one here circled red is in the right place and would not be noticed by the ZS camera ...

But - something like this is dangerous and must be reported. Mind you, not the car's fault ...

There's no way I'd be using the auto speed limiter on this thing, especially it being based on it's ability to read signs - which just by looking at it in it's basic informational mode doesn't do a great job.

Even with the better solutions from Tesla make mistakes, and MG is years of these systems.

There's an auto speed limiter on the ZS? No way would I trust that from MG.

Having watched the car trying to read the speed signs, there's no way I'm enabling it. There's enough phantom braking as it is without adding more.

Agreed! But it's not only the car, it's also to do with UK signs all over the place ... in overgrown bushes, 5 different sizes for speed limit signs (never understood why is that !!!) ... half the time I miss the signs too

I use it in the centre of London where there are lots of 20 mph zones.
if you see another ZS cut you off because of the gap between the cars - it's me ... ?

on a serious note, I tried using it in speed limit zones with cameras and if I set it on 20, it will sometimes go up to 21 ... ? so I gave up just in case the camera flashes me ...

Quite right had the same thing happen to me.

Just have mine set to visible warning and in the ZS once you set it, it stays set.

try traveling on the motorway at 70 mph and approach a roadworks truck full of signs that say 20. Suddenly the car slams on brakes in the middle lane to reduce you to 20 mph. since then I have stopped using intelligent speed control. only manual now.

I never use the intelligent bit.
But another question: is there a way to make the ACC just CC? In other words, disable the radar bit? My XK8 has a button to just turn it off, useful on motorways.

I only use the speed control and set it to manual, then set it to a speed i cannot exceed, I do not use the cruise control to control acceleration
