Hi all, i'd like to ask a question about balancing my car battery on my ZS EV, I'm trying to undertake a balance charge BUT I'm not sure if the car has actually equalised. What's the actual process of balancing the battery?

Does the car need to be in ready mode (green) on the dash with everything on OR can we leave on charge without turning the engine on to equalise?

Just some instruction would be good as I'm being told by MG dealer to leave in ready mode to equalise at the end of the charge

Thanks in advance

Just charge the car on AC, switched off, to 100%, the MG badge will pulsate whilst charging. Then the MG badge will remain on but not pulsing anymore, this is the balancing. Leave the charger connected until the MG badge goes off altogether, the balancing is then finished. The manual recommends doing this once a month.

Absolutely spot on !.
When the car goes into the “balance cycle” the MG badge in the grill, will glow at a constant steady low state, until the balance has finished.
It will then automatically turn off the wall box or the “Granny”.
When the badge light is softly pulsing, it is receiving a charge.
It will drop into balance mode after the pack is fully charged and displaying 100%.
The car is only requesting about 500 watts to perform the balance cycle.
You can see the ramp down in demand IF you have a home energy smart meter and monitor installed.
It is interesting to see how the energy meter is able to plot / log and display the usage from your wall box, almost instantly.
From a low SOC if will allow the wall box to feed the car with a little over 7.0 kw’s.
When the HV battery reaches about 98% charged, it will then reduced the demand from the wall box down to about 3.5 kw’s.
When the HV battery hits 100% charged, it will then drop into the balancing cycle.
Only pulling about 500 kw’s.
A smart meter monitor is great, instant way of displaying what is being used on regular basis.
