Battery Inbalance

Hi,
I have owned my ZS since December, 3 weeks ago after using on a 7kw charger at my local supermarket the car reported HV battery shut off and eventually had to towed away and back to the dealership. They have draining the battery and and recharging it since then and after speaking to them today will be carrying out several more before they can release it. They are now saying that I have to balance the battery every time I carry out an interim charge whilst out and about which in my case could be 15hrs plus as I only have a granny charger at home. Can anyone confirm that this the case as I would never have purchased it had I known.

Oh dear, sounds like you had the buggy BMS software.
Was your range getting shorter over time ? Do you know what your voltage was when fully charged? ( 3 down clicks from the speedo in the centre console).

If so, then hopefully the dealer will have updated this, did they tell you what they had done ? then you will need to charge often and leave to balance until this gradually gets back to 100%.

You should have been recalled by your dealership to get the BMS fixed.
Unbelievable that this is still happening to people.

I wouldn’t have thought that it would take 6 Months to notice that you have the bad bms? Have you used rapids a lot? Has your range dropped a lot? The HV shut off message has nothing to do with the bad bms and is usually associated with not engaging the HV battery. Breaking down and needing recovery is also not a symptom of the bad bms. I would suggest that you find out what the dealership has done to your car - i.e. Have they updated the bms and did it have the faulty bms? Then check what fully charged HV voltage is reading, If the dealership are completing some of the balancing and what the voltage will be when you get the car back. It’s s not all bad news - many have successfully had the update and balanced their cars. I know it’s a pain. If you can get all the facts first you can then have a better view on where you are With the car.

Just thought the BMS may be part of the issue because the OP purchased the car last December.

Yes - good point. The balancing all points to that. Perhaps the other events were unrelated. The dealership should really explain things fully to the OP - unfortunately it’s not always the cas unless you push them.
