I have booked a test drive for next week and I have just had a quick look at the MG3 manual. I notice you can only select Park, Reverse, Neutral or Drive. There is no option of selecting Low Gear as in most automatics. I live in a hilly area and often select Low when going downhill to provide some engine braking and stop the car running away, so does that mean in the MG3 I would be totally reliant on the brakes when going down a long steep hill?

Also the manual seems to indicate that when stopped at traffic lights Neutral should be selected. In my current car when I stop at traffic lights and Brake Hold has been selected it seems to electronically go into Neutral even though the gear selector is in D, then when I apply a little throttle it re-engages Drive and the brakes go off. So is it necessary to manually select Neutral when stopped at the lights in the MG3?

The regen braking on level 3 should go a long way to holding you back on downhill roads, this is from MG's information on Regenerative Braking . . . . "In the “most powerful” regeneration level, the braking effect is strong enough that you hardly need to use your brake pedal anymore. This is also known as “one pedal driving”. You will feel very comfortable with this new way of driving after a short while."
