I took it to a local garage today and they were super nice, fixed the tyre very quickly for £18.

Repairable.

I had a puncture by a screw in a similar place and I was told not repairable.
As it was not within the middle 3/4 of the tyre. The one by the OP might have been officially repairable.
But, it can be repaired using a simple tyre plug, though the warranty on the tyre would technically be void.

Compound vs. Tread pattern. Compound is more important and you have literally no way of knowing if they’re the same or not.

Compound between Turanza 005 and Turanza 6 is different. More over, even the same Turanza 6 if made in China will not have the same compound as a Turanza 6 made in Spain or Italy.

And technically speaking it is not within the middle 75% of the thread. The one by the OP is not officially repairable.

It's actually 70% of the section width so for this tyre, the penetration needs to be more than 35mm from the extremity of the section width. It's simple enough to measure this.

The guy at the garage obviously repaired the tyre, so it was repairable. He said if it was a bit more towards the outside it wouldn’t de repairable.

You are correct in which case yes this could be repaired. Mine was obviously just outside of that limit even if only by half an inch.
