I took it to a local garage today and they were super nice, fixed the tyre very quickly for £18.

Compound between Turanza 005 and Turanza 6 is different. More over, even the same Turanza 6 if made in China will not have the same compound as a Turanza 6 made in Spain or Italy.Compound vs. Tread pattern. Compound is more important and you have literally no way of knowing if they’re the same or not.
It's actually 70% of the section width so for this tyre, the penetration needs to be more than 35mm from the extremity of the section width. It's simple enough to measure this.And technically speaking it is not within the middle 75% of the thread. The one by the OP is not officially repairable.
