British Gas

Thanks John, yes I've read posts about them....that was my initial go to...but since reading on here definitely not. Thinking Hypervolt or Pod Point.
Good choices but also have in mind Intelligent Octopus Go at 7p kWh, your would need either Zappi, Ohme or Wallbox units to allow to use this tariff with your MG.

Good news! As others have pointed out probably best to get one of the intelligent approved chargers for if rates change to be more favorable.

My charger went in before I was playing with tariffs and I just went with what local installer had because that’s just how it happened.

Now you have a functioning meter in, your life should be ALOT simpler for changes. Only other thing I’d suggest is start working out ways to load shift the house into the hours too as the savings become even better (house bill along without charging reduced thanks to the tariff). Smart timers on the immersion heater setting washing machine, dryer (if you feel safe) etc to run.

We changed to British Gas around six weeks ago from Rebel energy & it's been hard work up until now! Still can't sign in to our account despite giving them the relevant info umpteen times, Every time we send them the info again the person said it'll be between 5-10 days before it's active, three weeks later & still nowt!!!!
I'm interested in the 'Peak Sunday' rate of half price electricity between the hours of 11:00 to 16:00 every Sunday. Three people there have told us three different things.... We're automatically on it,..... we need to sign up to it.... Our old smart meter should be OK, The answer is a big fat NO to all of them.
We've managed to arrange for them to upgrade our old smart meter to an updated one in two weeks time, but it doesn't bode well for getting things sorted out in the future

Well I have had enough of BG terrible company to deal with! Despite numerous calls regarding estimated smart readings on my EV tariff took over 6 months to sort out,
Currently awaiting result of my complaint regarding extortionate bills, luckily I can prove when and how much I used through my charger app.
I would advise anyone to steer clear, will be going elsewhere once complaint is dealt with.

British Gas are absolutely horrendous, why anyone in todays market would use or recommend them beggars belief (I'm not having a dig at you BTW).

You should take a bit of care in your confidence of your charging app, the units arent calibrated and theyre not conclusive evidence in a legal case BUT they can be used to give a good idea of the amounts used. You just need to bear this mind if your situation turns ugly and you have to go the legal or ombudsman route.

Totally agree, only used because they were the best quote at the time and did not require a specific charger etc. I had the EV6 at the time and was not going to pay for another charger!

To be honest, due to my low mileage and infrequent charging, I have worked out it’s better to go back to a normal dual fuel rate. The saving made on off peak charging are more than offset by the peak rates charges, in my case.
Something to keep in mind when looking at EV tariffs

They are a nightmare, I 100% agree and now octopus have upped their game on standard GO the only reason they have any merit is they fix for a year. Prices are due to rise in oct so it may be a case of wait and see or battle on.

I ripped my hair out with them and it was over 3 months of frustration to fix the ev tariff. Their support sucks, their app doesn’t show usage and their direct debit estimates are wild (they have been far too low and still are for me). I only have electric so imagine adding gas to that would cause even more grief.

Before jumping just check if a cheap tariff can still save vs standard. Pushing load to the hours MAY still apply, water heating, washing machine, dryer, charging car, charging other batteries etc. In my all electric house it most definitely does.

Agree regards their support , there is NONE!!

But to be fair, the Hive app shows by month Total usage, Average/day. Total off-peak, Total on-peak for kWh and same in £, and with daily kWh and cost in £. Our DD is recommended to be changed on average once a month

As hive is their own creation they can get knotted having any more money off me for kit to do things which should be done anyway.

The IHD does its job for daily costs, Hugo set up with rates manually and my chargers own calcs for car costs (not that it really matters).

Attached is all the info their app gives, or ever gives!

gaaaz478 - Not wanting to correct you BUT I shall,

The Hive app works totally fine with their EV chargers. You are referring to, and have shown a screen from the BGas app, which is not designed to show EV charging use.

The engineer came & changed our old smart electric & gas meters for upgraded ones, Both of them are not talking to the new tablet monitor & he tried three new ones straight out of the boxes with no luck.
They say our readings don't seem quite right based on our last readings we submitted, Well they won't with new meters installed. I signed up to the peak save Sunday's which gives you half price electricity between 11:00 & 16:00, so I'm doing the main laundry & charging the car on Sunday now as we only really need to charge it once a week, It will be interesting to see how much we can save.

I believe they have extended the hours for peaksave to 9-5. I “saved” a few quid over the months but still cheaper to charge at night on their ev tariff. They apply credit to your account each week. It does of course require the meters to be working, which I hope yours are.

Oh! I didn't know that they'd extended the hours, Even better. I logged into my account this afternoon & saw that they've now got readings from both meters & some credit from last Sunday I presume, ⁣ both of the meters still aren't talking to the monitor tablet, it just says trying to connect but never does. The upgraded electricity meter was a refurbished one & the gas meter was a brand new one. Both of us being retired with no commute, we only charge once a week from 50% to 80-90% & sometimes just once a fortnight.

Good! Glad it’s working for you. Can’t really help with the IHD - their advice is normally to turn it off and remove batteries if it has them for a day then turn it on next to the meter. Apps like loop and Hugo are an alternative but it lags though at least you eventually have the info.

Since moving to direct debit it became pretty redundant for me and only was useful when solar came in as it shows what you are exporting (I.e what is left over after consumed by house so can help load up the solar from house use). Out of 820 generated, exported 275 with no battery so it does help there but that’s about it for me personally.

The extension is only during the period of the Olympics. But we also get half price on two Saturdays:

PeakSave Gold Sundays

28th July – 8th September
Once the Olympic flame is lit, we're running PeakSave Gold Sundays, where you get half-price electricity from 9am to 5pm.^
That's an extra three hours on top of our usual Sundays!

PeakSave Super Saturdays

3rd August & 7th September
But wait, there's more! We're also throwing in two special PeakSave Super Saturdays during the Games.
Enjoy the same half-price electricity from 9am to 5pm.^

On a side note my Mother's BG electric smart meter has not been working since 2017, reported it at least 20 times since then to BG who say they will get an engineer to look at it BUT of course no one ever turns up. Given up now....

If they ever book an appointment and miss it you are due £30 compensation. It doesn’t get automatically applied, you have to state that you want it.
