Broken down - any ideas

We've decided to keep it for now - done 800 miles since the warranty repair and to be fair, it's been faultless since so hopefully it'll remain that way as we love the car and had spent a fair bit on it before it broke down (ceramic coating, frunk etc etc).

By the time we factor in hiring a car to bridge the gap between getting the money back and replacing it, it'll be costing us a pretty sum and we'd want to replace it with another X-Power (as there is nothing like it at the price point), so there is the risk we'll have to start again.

On the positives, every module on the car has been updated and it now has much better boots on so it 'should' be as good you can currently get

Good news!
I hope it stays that way for you.?

No question its a great car, and not just for the money.
It's just a great car.

Does absolutely everything I could reasonably expect of a car with a good dose of mind scrambling chucked in for good measure when required.

So got email from the technician and it looks like the integrated brake control system module has gone down - apparently a first on any MG4 model (guess I’m just lucky!)

Will find out hopefully tomorrow how many more weeks or possibly months we’ll be without the car, again as the replacement module will be coming from china, assuming they have stock.

Might even get to 400 miles when we eventually get it back.

Regarding trying again to reject the car, what are people’s thoughts on how long is unacceptable for the repair to be completed?

Pretty sick of all the stress it’s caused so far, plus all the time off work to date it’s cost me.
Hi,

Thought I’d pipe in as my MG4 SE has been sitting in the forecourt since middle of July with the same fault codes appearing.

I was told the car would be initially booked In for 23/08. When I had the AA out, he said to take it to the dealers forecourt and leave it there which is what I did.

Today I got a notification that they have fixed the fault, below is the email.

Technicians Report:
Checked warning lights on dash, no lights on upon entry to car, however all lights came on once vehicle started driving. ABS/SCS/STEERING/PARKING BRAKE lights on, found brake operation poor. Scanned for fault codes and found 2 codes stored for FDR (Front detection radar) & IBS (Intergrated Brake System). Disconnected 12V battery and disconnected IBS multiplug to inspect wiring/terminals and IBS module pins - all ok. No corrosion or deformation found, reconnected IBS multiplug and 12V battery. Attempted to update IPS modules through diagnosis, programming completed successfully to latest version.
After updates warning lights still present, Advised IBS module is replaced. Supplied and fitted new IBS module and carried out replacement procedure through diagnostic equipment. Carried out ABS (Anti-braking system) fluid bleeding procedure and calibrated components. Road tested vehicle and rechecked and all warning lights and codes have cleared. Fault now rectified.

Your vehicle is now ready for collection, The branch is open till 8pm tonight.

Excited to get my car back earlier than planned, I headed along after work, got my key, jumped in the car and ‘Brake system fault, consult handbook’ came back up so the key has been handed back and I’ll contact the service team tomorrow.

No courtesy car has been provided because I refused to pay £12 a day for insurance when I already have insurance but apparently AC do not offer a courtesy unless you take their insurance.

There is a fascinating YT video series "incarnation Australia" where some one is changing a Porsche 928 to an EV using MG ZS electrics , motor, battery etc. Of course along the way they encounter problems getting every thing working. Most of the problems tend to be through components having dodgy earths and because all the modules need to "talk" to each other ,one module badly earthed can shut down and /or make it look like a different module is not working correctly. Mainly beyond the scope of a competent home mechanic unless you have expensive diagnostic equipment and a full workshop, but also it seems can stump "trained technicians" , no help here of course but it does reveal a lot about how modern cars operate and how the simplest oversight or fault can cause major faults further along the system. Well worth a watch if that sort of thing interests you and can help stop the workshop managers treating you like a numpty.

Quick update

Today the engineer has said that its air in the brake lead.

So he’s checked it all again and wants to leave it overnight and test it again tomorrow before closing it as completed.
