Hi everyone,

I'm excited to share that I'm purchasing a 2023 MG ZS EV Excite 51 base model (apparently it was a demo) with about 5,000 km on the clock from an MG dealer in Perth. The car looked immaculate, and I managed to get it for $32,000 AUD. I've already put down a $1,000 deposit to secure it and am wondering if I should do any extra checks before finalizing the purchase. The test drive went well, and it seemed very fast with 5 people in the car in sports mode.

Hopefully, I'll have it by tomorrow.

I'm also considering getting the tint from the dealer, which is just under $700 AUD. Do you think it's worth it?

Hope you all are enjoying your ZSEVs ?

Much love,

Hello DoverG,
Welcome to the forum & club.
In the UK Tesla chargers are often the cheapest rapid chargers, but requires the software to be updated to accept them. I don't know if it's similar in Australia?
There is no over the air updating, so ask the dealer to make sure it has all the updates (including up to date maps) before you collect.
I would have thought tinting in Aus would be a given?

Hope you enjoy it... ?

Hello Dover. I've had my Trophy EV for 4 weeks now - my first EV and I also own a Hyundai Santa Fe which I'll still be using for really long haul and local heavy work. My ZS is 10 months old. 4k miles and price was £10k less than new I think dealers in the UK are being incentivised to shift all the stock they can as new vehicles are piling up in Europe.
Although I'm an old guy I am reasonably IT literate, I've found the whole transition to screen based vehicle management fairly daunting - I found you just have to put the time in to work out how the systems work by watching other people's videos and this excellent forum. From what I read and my experience I think MG have sorted out many of the teethig troubles from a few years back but there are still a few odd anomolies that can pop up. The MG user guide, although lengthy, isn't actually much help with the real issues of setting up the parameters you want.
The car is a dream to drive and for example I've found the intelligent cruise control much better in terms of smoothness compared with my 5 year old Hyundai. Of course you cant actually see the cruise control stalk behind the steering wheel but once you get the 'feel' for it's relatively simple operation it's very good - you just have to practice it on open highways for starters until you get accustomed. The Air Con is also a bit odd - I had to play around with the settings even though it thought it was on Auto. Once I'd found how to access the settings and selected auto again it actually started blowing cold!
I think MG have put too much into the screen based control and not worked out how to present a simple interface for users so again my advice is to persevere and you'll get it.
I'm currently getting 12V battery warnings every 3rd time (or so) that I power down even though the battery has good voltage so I'm off to see the dealer this week. It doesn't worry me but think it shows that the whole IT based complexity doesn't need much to drift out of specification to give problems.
I've turned off the lane departure control - cant stand being corrected especially on single carriage way roads - it's way down in the settings menu but great that you can permanently turn it off. On the Hyundai I have to do it every journey but then it's a single dedicated button.
Hope these few thoughts are helpful.

Ex dem EVs are not always the bargains they may appear to be. The problem being that a dealer always wants the car to display a huge available range. So they ALWAYS charge the car to full as soon as they've used it.

This is they best way to prematurely degrade a Lithium Ion battery... especially in hot Australia.

Be warned.

700$ seems expensive there are independent tint companies that will do it cheaper, in UK I Paid £150.

Make sure dealer 'unbinds' car

Best of luck to you in Australia ?? I had a brand new MG ZS Ev Trophy Long range battery after 18 months of continuous problems I am now parting ways with both the ZS and MG ! currently waiting on a brand new VW i4 ! Once it arrives in the UK both my dealers and MG themselves have been a disgrace ? I hope you have a much better experience I would say re your tinting I think the dealers are at it ! You could have this done much more affordably elsewhere where I am sure I had the tinted windows however my car was a top of range spec however that went for nothing considering all the endless problems we had ! ? Best of luck to you don’t let the dealers mess you around would be my advice if you encounter any issues with yours ?

I am a happy driver owning a 2023 MG ZS EV Trophy Connect LR with 10,000km on the clock. I plan to keep the car for next 15 years. I drove gently with average 15.1 kWh/100km for past 16 months. Efficiency can be reached to 11.4 kWh/100km repeatly. Most people who enjoy speed and comfort won't reach such efficiency.
I do not like voice activated phone call with MG ZS. Ramdom number would be called by saying "Hello MG call Tom". Maybe I should not refuse MG to access my phone book at beginning.
