Hi all. I've seen a few posts from people who have done DIY frunks, but little about the ones that are available for sale now.
I see EV Accessories Ireland now have one for the MG5
Under Bonnet solutions for your electric car - costing Euro 150
There is also one from Frunk AT
MG5 Electric frunk - frunk.at | additional trunk costing Eur 250

I like the idea of getting a bit more storage space, but it's not much space and also quite expensive for what it is..
Currently I store a charging cable under the bonnet - it fits fine - which is handy if I ever need it if charging locally on a AC charger (which is very rare).
It'd be reasonably handy to be able to store a bit more under the hood - but not that big a deal - and I know all the points about modifications etc.

Has anyone bought a frunk from any of these suppliers? I'd be interested to get some viewpoints on this

Not sure why anyone would consider either of those options at that price when you can buy a perfect fit plastic box from Ikea for around £17 and it’s often reduced to less than £10…..

Honestly, even the cheap one at 150 euro is ridiculously expensive when you can fit a plastic box for a tenner.

I made one for my first MG5 but have not bothered for the 2nd, too much hassle opening the bonnet when I needed the cable or grit. But that's just me, you might find it more usefull.

I kept my lead under the bonnet, nothing else. I can see the attraction of a frunk and I have one in my current car, where I keep the lead. :) Keeping it in the front is next to the charging port and saves room in the boot and avoids having to dig around for it if you have luggage.

Mine slides round the boot with oodles of space:ROFLMAO:
Grown up kids so the only thing that goes in the boot is shopping or suitcases when we hit the road.

I think that's the point for me. I have tethered at home so the only time I ever need the lead for public charging is when I'm away and have luggage in the boot.

If you’re just looking for a home for the charging cable then there is no need for a frunk (on a FL model at least), it fits neatly and securely between the engine cover and the bonnet.
Yes, that's what I do at the moment

I get what you're all saying - I haven't bothered getting one either until now. Not getting many people selling me the benefits of the bought ones!
One reason to buy might have been that they could be deemed acceptable by MG dealers, but it seems that pretty much all of them say "Remove before you send in for a service" - so that's not a reason to buy one.
Thanks for the input anyway :-)

Is there anyone who measured the height of the space between the plastic cover and the bonnet?
My idea is to glue some velcro on top of the plastic cover to hold the original cable case in place.
Thank you
Uwe

That was the other reason I got rid of mine, the dealer having conniptions when I put it in for service. :D

Haven't measured it, but it's fairly tight. I find my cable bag fits in OK but it definitely is snug and certainly won't move about. I see no need to use velcro.

Must admit I keep thinking of fitting a frunk but can’t think what I’d keep in it
My charging cables fit neatly into the spare wheel in the boot and the jack fits in the spare wheel well too
😃👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

There have been only a few times I needed to use the 22kW cable but was glad it was under the bonnet as on each occasion the weather was miserable and the boot full of either shopping bags or suitcases…

I rarely need to get the charging cable out from the boot as I have a 2nd one I use at home, that said juggling getting the cable out from under the false floor and getting the dog to behave himself when I'm doing so is sometimes a bit fun. (Because I have to let said dog out of the boot to get the cable out from under the false floor)

I have the one from Ireland, added simply so that I could load it with all the cables, (T2, EU adaptor, granny, 10m extension), plus tyre pump, tools etc to create extra space in the boot.

Bigger & stronger than a plastic box, the space created allowed me to bring back a crate of wine that alone paid for it in savings!

I have the EV accessories frunk. I am very satisfied with it. Get it during any of their sales. Frunk.AT is way too expensive.
