Hi I got mg4 long range I only getting 120 miles for 80 per cent change can any tell me if this is low or good for this time of year or its bad

120 miles how?
From 80% down to when you next recharge? (e.g. 20%)
Or as shown on the GOM (Guess-O-Meter) as the estimated range at 80% state of charge?

I charge car when it's down to 20 percent

I only had 18 miles left when I changed car from 20 percent

When it turns itself off I leave it for 10 mins before I take out the plug.

You must leave it until the port lights go out or the app tells you that charging is finished. Balancing can take up to 2 hours if it has not been done for a long time. Also a change from <10% to 100% plus balancing is recommended every 6 months. But normal balancing is vitalky important.

This must get done via AC charging.

I cannot change from home so I can't leave it that long. MG told me once it's turned itself off, it's done. I asked about waiting for lights to go out because I looked it up and MG told me once it unlocks, take it out. They said when it's done, it's done. They told me every car loses anything up to 3 percent just after changing and never go to 100; no higher than 95 percent. That's what they told me when I had my battery checked.

Can you describe the typical trip you make with this car?

One advice though: ignore the dealer.

120 miles for 60% capacity (20% - 80%) equates to 200 miles for 100% ... a little on the low side, but not vastly-so. (And will depend on the types of journey you are doing, how heavy your right foot is, and the settings you're using in the car for Drive Mode, Regen, Aircon, etc.). A balance charge may help, as described above.

What does the miles/kWh say on the trip ?
Using the heater on HI and short journeys you could give you around 2 mi/kWh.
2 x 61.7 (battery capacity) = 123 miles for 100% so it is feasible.
I'm getting around 150 miles on a full charge currently, 2.5 mi/kWh, short trips with the heater on 28°C most of the time.

Typical of the car I have found, I have done 56 miles since Monday (it charged to 79% overnight after dropping to 22% from 80% on Sunday doing 90 miles) and it was down to 36% today.

For info, I keep the battery between 40-80% as requested in the hand book for regular use on the Long Range, I do a 100% charge once a month when I know I will be using the battery to balance it.

I keep the car in "Normal Mode".

@Thebigone10, please confirm that you are saying that when the battery level says 80% the car displays 120 miles range.

Please answer the questions above about your car usage (how far, how fast, how often) and what miles/kWh is shown.

If you do not charge at home, how do you charge? Do you DC charge (large plug fitting the socket completely) or AC charge (smaller plug fitting the top part of the car charging port)?

120 miles at 70 mph highway speeds, at this time of the year is by my 5000 miles experience with the 64 model for ~80/20, very normal. It is even less than that when well below 0°C.

60% is up to 37 kWh (depending on SOH, temperature and other things)...so average 18 kWh/100 km (3.45 mi/kWh) is roughly 200 km (120 mi) of range.

Keep in mind it really depends of where you're driving...hills or completely flat terrain. Even continuous slight uphill kills your range significantly.

Why can't you leave it that long? I don't charge from home and leave mine for 8 hours on a public charger

Because I charge at tesco only be there for up to 3 hours plus if it unlocked people just take it out and use it

As of this morning, 108 miles for 68% charge.

This is the norm for me as I don't reset the GOM too often and consume muchos electrons before setting off.

I also don't spare the horses out on the road, so my GOM is probably very accurate.

Good job then that my regular 36 mile round trips are well within my limited battery capacity.

(Tyres at 44psi as I deliberately overfilled at a garage yesterday, so I could put them to 40 psi with my trusted TPG this morning)

I myself am unable to charge from home, so you need to be creative to balance properly.

Short summary....

Tesla Supercharger to 97%
Move to nearby 22kW charger.

Agreeable pub lunch for circa one and a half hours.

On return, car at 100% and fully balanced. 👍

Have you had the car long?

I remember when I got mine the range was showing abysmally short, then as you drive it more the car learns your habits and updates your range accordingly.

However, at this time of year with the cold temperature the range does drop by a significant amount, I say I get realistically around 130-150 miles out of an 80% charge at the moment.
