So, drove to work, all well, then went to a customers premises with 2 other colleagues in my MG4 Trophy which is one month old today as a fact!!!

Came out, drove back to work but as we pulled up, the car suddenly jolted. We stopped, pushed the handbrake button but we could not exit the car. Doors would not unlock, windows would not scroll down, engine froze, electrics froze, stuck in car for over 45 minutes.

After many panic discussions with nearby MG dealerships, we were told to take the battery off and wait 10 minutes for it to reset, got to get out of the car first!!!!!
After a good 90 minutes, suddenly smelt the strong whiff of burning so smashed the passenger window to get out.

Horrible episode to be involved with, car only 4 weeks old and now car returned to dealership. I am refusing to have it back, have emailed MG, I want a complete replacement. Quite simply, if a fire had engulfed us, we would have been dead, this is a major H&S issue for the MG4, as a Health & Safety Director myself, I am not going to let this go, MG you have been warned.

Other users, please be aware!!! I do have videos of the incident if anyone wants them, send me your number and I will whatsapp them!!

Mine don't need one APPARANTLY according to the dealership.
Then either they are wrong or this is a new failure not fixed by the last safety recall. Definitely worth taking your experience to DVSA and getting them to open an investigation.

Edit: There is an emergency boot release to escape through the back hatch.

As above, they ALL need that software update done. Yours should have been done as part of PDI prior to you getting the car, but perhaps it was overlooked.

If it was done then this is another, related, very serious issue, so you should raise it with DVSA as suggested.

Could you upload to YouTube please.

Sounds like the update was missed but the burning smell hasn't been mentioned before with the locking in issue

You won't know what the BCM version is as this isn't accessible to the end user only the Infotainment version
How are people reporting things like v33 or whatever it is if its just the Infotainment? Or is that all we know and all the talk of software versions doesn’t really matter?

That's the Infotainment version.

The various control modules in the car can only be accessed with special software, and versions are irrelevant if you also don't know the hardware iteration.

Two identical cars in terms of model and spec can have control modules from the same manufacturer but have differing iterations which means they require different software versions, it happens all the time throughout a cars manufacturing run

What a terrible experience for you all and quite embarrassing.
I don't blame you ar all for demanding a replacement car. I know I would want that same thing.
The car really ought to have a fail safe mode.
