Absolutely this. Then either they are wrong or this is a new failure not fixed by the last safety recall. Definitely worth taking your experience to DVSA and getting them to open an investigation.
No it shouldn’t and it is now around 5/6 weeks since that recall was issued and on my wife’s car they could not do it 3 weeks ago so still waiting for it.Well, we had 90 minutes to think about it. What gets me, it's a £32K car, only had it 4 weeks, 1000 miles on the clock, this should not be happening!!
There is a way its the rear hatch which can be opened from inside if you can get at it bloody ridiculous.Update aside, I am really surprised (again) that there is no mechanical way to open the car from the inside which overrides all electronic routines (even if faulty, which ist the point). I even thought it was mandatory. On the Tesla Model 3 for example there is a physical lever which force-opens the doors overriding the magnetic system.
Has anyone actually seen what other cars "escape" procedures are to see if this is the norm or if it is unique? There is a way its the rear hatch which can be opened from inside if you can get at it bloody ridiculous.

That sounds like an awful experience to have to go through, compounded by this fact, that it could have been prevented by your dealer performing the update. I was under the impression that MG Motor UK had issued a recall for a locking in issue and that all cars needed to be updated to prevent such an occurrence.Mine don't need one APPARANTLY according to the dealership.
My 19 reg Ateca makes it impossible to exit the car if you lock it with anyone inside the car.Has anyone actually seen what other cars "escape" procedures are to see if this is the norm or if it is unique?
I can't imagine many cars allow use of the door handles should they enter "theft" mode and deadlock the doors as it defeats the purpose.
I'm not justifying anyone getting locked in and trapped, just wondering if SAIC have chosen a novel emergency escape option or if this is the industry norm.
Update: after scrolling Google it appears this is the industry norm for the emergency exit to be the boot.
Totally agree- i posted this a few weeks ago - I might suggest removing the rear parcel shelf - but obviously you would have to do this for all journeys- not the best compromise- just hope the update works- if you have not had it yet.How do you get in the boot if you have two kids car seats in the rear? I can barely move the rear passenger seat the thing is so big, I only have one to worry about but two car seats in the back is a fairly common sight. I can't see it being possible to remove a car seat from inside as a practise run, never mind if you were locked in with a burning smell!
The parcel shelf is essentially reinforced fibre board, while it shouldn't be necessary in an emergency you can easily break the parcel shelf to get through it.Totally agree- i posted this a few weeks ago - I might suggest removing the rear parcel shelf - but obviously you would have to do this for all journeys- not the best compromise- just hope the update works- if you have not had it yet.
That’s frightening about the vans - but the fact you have smash windows or break parcel shelves or anything is unacceptable- it’s not know if anyone has had the update and still been locked in.The parcel shelf is essentially reinforced fibre board, while it shouldn't be necessary in an emergency you can easily break the parcel shelf to get through it.
From the time since my post earlier about this being the norm on cars, it's even the norm on vans which have a steel bulk head to contend with, so while it's no consolation could be worse, imagine being locked in a van where you have a steel bulkhead between you and the "emergency" means of exiting the vehicle.
Hi Bowfer - not sure who you are replying to?You want a replacement..?
You’re giving them another chance…?

Put my registration in and it said it had no information. You can check for any outstanding recalls here: Recalls by Reg but I suspect it may be too recent to have reached the website yet.
