Only ad the car a few weeks MG5 trophy LR 74 plate the connection for the carplay on my iphone 13 pro max is terrible tried loads of stuff but nothing seems to work it just seems to connect when it wants if it does not connect when i open the car with in seconds then it will not connect no matter what i do with it i'm trying to connect to it with a new genuine iphone lead and also the CPLAY2air device in my other car it never failed to connect with either device any help would be grateful.

Is the lightning port on the phone clean?

I had loads of issues with mine when I had one, and it turned out the port was full of pocket fluff, which wasn't that surprising as I tended to use both magsafe charging and wireless CarPlay (via a dongle/adaptor)

Cleaning out the port helped a lot.

it looks all clean and ok its hit and miss even with the cable or even the wireless dongle i have noticed that when the carplay icon on the display is less brighter than the android icon it just wont connect at all then on other times it connect all ok it just seems its not getting a signal from the car to connect if i open car up and don't go straight into the drivers seat then it wont connect,

It’s extremely cable fussy. Mine even failed with Apple oem cable.

Someone suggested this cable I have had almost no issue since using it.

Slight drift, I took delivery of my new Trophy LR today and have just been out fiddling with everything (and the car!! :) ).

I thought Android Auto was wireless on the FL - seems not??

I think that my now most of us that use android auto have bought a wireless adapter. They seem much more reliable than a cable connection and don't cost much from ebay/aliexpress.

I'm still using a cable which is useful of course as it charges too! Any problems I had in the past were physical connectivity related, either a cable one or most often, a build up of lint inside the phone - sometimes this would cause the connection to fail if driving over, say, a bump of less than 1mm...

Carlinkit 5.0 switches between iOS and android. I’d argue it’s way more robust than a cabled connection for both.

Use another usb to charge if required.

Fundamentally, android auto is flaky in any car system it seems, but my wife likes her android phone. I switched to apple purely for CarPlay as I do 25k miles/year and just couldn’t live with the frustration of AA.

I use the other usb port if I need to charge. Seems odd to use wireless and then plug it it too but its reliable.

I can vouch for this too. It was suggested on this forum so I bought one and have had no issues at all since.

I've used AA Wireless (?) almost since my now-gone pre facelift was new. Works fine in the facelift too. But the inbuilt system doesn't seem so bad as the earlier models- I just prefer Waze for the additional info

I used a Statik pro360 cable for AA in both my old MG5 SR and now my new Trophy. Always worked fairly well, but had a habit of dropping out, generally at the same moment I was approaching a difficult junction. Finally did what most have done and gone wireless. Now great and reliable; I still have to plug the phone in, as I have realised just how much power, using maps and music, the phone uses

Having always had a fairly flakey experience with CarPlay in my Mk1 MG5 I was simultaneously disappointed and unsurprised when my new iPhone 16 fails completely to connect via cable.

I suspect it may be time to try a wireless adaptor...

Edit: I ordered a

Lyssiefeel Wireless Carplay Adapter

and it seems to work very well indeed.

Happy Days!
