Hi
Simple question, will your MG 5 charge to full capacity in cold weather, for my 21 plate model that is 163 miles.
With temperatures around feeezing i I cannot get a charge in above 137 miles. I normally charge it to 70% which takes it to 137 miles, it’s only occasionally that I need 100% the last time being in the summer when it was fine.
But now even putting it on Max charge on an Ohme charger to avoid any charging restrictions it won’t charge past 137 mikes.
The car is a 21 plate with 7000 miles on the clock.
Ohme support is absolutely terrible, been in the phone and waited for over 40 mins on 3 occasions only to have the call terminated. I wanted to check with them if the charger was working correctly, it’s 6 months old, I’ve had the car for 6 months.
It’s unclear from articles on the web if the cold weather actually limits the charge. Some say it does by around 20% others don’t mention a limit at all and just says it takes longer.
Any experience appreciated as I just don’t don’t know what I’m dealing with.
Thanks.

Its charging it to 100% but the range prediction is based on what the driving conditions have been like for the last few (does anyone know how many) miles and so it predicts that 100% will only get you 137 miles of range.

Try resetting the trip counters.
Does it say 100% on the display?
You may need to do a few Battery Balances to see if that helps.

Think of your battery as a tank with an inlet on top and an outlet at the bottom, which both can be height adjusted:

In the summer you can fill and empty the tank completely but the colder it gets, the more the inlet shifts downward, while at the same time the outlet goes up.

The volume of the tank remains the same (SoC 100%) but it’s capacity (range) is reduced.

Hi fellow MG5 drivers,
The last few times I’ve charged my 74 plate MG5 Trophy Long Range it is only charging to 90% and showing 185 miles. How do I get it to charge to the full 100%? Or is it all down to the cold weather? I didn’t have this issue with my Nissan Leaf.

Hi, what EVSE (charge point) do you have and what tariff are you on?
Have you tried finishing off with the granny?

Is it possible that you have set the car to 90% ? There is a setting in the app and in the car for the maximum charge.

Press home on the infotainment system, then touch on the background of where it says "Charging", then on the bar over the top of the picture of the car, press to the end of the bar to make sure it's set to charge to the full 100%.

If you've linked the car with a charger, then you may need to investigate the charger's settings too.

Do consider if you need 100% every time. Your battery will stay healthiest between 10% and 70-80%

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I have a Vorsprung unit that I fitted myself. I think I’ve sorted it to a certain degree. The level was set to 90% and I wasn’t aware that it could be set until I read the other replies to my post. Thanks to them as well!
I’ve altered the level on the app but I’m going to check on the cars settings as well.
I’ve another query if someone can help me please. Is there a more accessible manual than the one with the app?
