Charging, charging, charging ..........

I have had charging problems, now mostly resolved, for at least a year. This involved both the car and the Rolec charger not working, and at one point both at the same time. This made things very tricky to diagnose and drove me bonkers. I am trying to avoid going back to the dealer again, because they must be sick of the sight of me (although they've been very patient). I've had many visits from the installer (SRG Electrical, also very patient) who eventually returned my charger to Rolec for a rebuild. It now works ok ?.

The car problem was a failure to DC charge, although continuing to charge using AC. The garage doesn't have a rapid charger so didn't/couldn't diagnose the fault. They claimed the car was charging ok. It took a stranding in Margate, a trip home on an AA flatbed (the MG AA cover works really well) and many failed attempts to rapid charge locally for the light to go on in my head. MG gave the dealer a software fix and the car now rapid charges?. However, it's reverted to using a trickle charge between plugging in to my wall box and the 12.30am cheap rate cutting in. Very strange. An earlier update sorted that ages ago. So, before I go back to the dealer (again!), which I'm dreading doing, can anyone tell me what's going on please?

Can you please expand a little on the last bit of your story ?.

Quite well known earlier problem with Rolec smart chargers not recognising the MG.

I believe you need to contact Rolec and ask them to turn off the trickle charge setting which was originally added as a workaround to prevent the car falling asleep when trying to do a timed smart charge.

Thanks. I'll email EV.energy and ask them to switch it off. Should have done so earlier, I suppose, but I'm a bit worn down by a year of this nonsense and just wanted to see if anyone else has had the problem and had resolved it.

Ev my app tell me my MG will not start to smart charge at 12 midnight unless I plug it in after the time , because I like my bed and am damn lazy EV have set the system to trickle charge up to the cheap rate, not overly concerned as the trickle charge actual cost is never more than 40p , if I plug in at 10 30pm so for the free charge on SSE Fix and Drive from midnight it's not an heavy cross to bear I feel and get to bed not too late
 
Fair enough. I'm half with you on this tbh but I hate that, after a year or so of enduring this nonsense, the bloody thing still doesn't work properly
 
It must be extremely frustrating I must admit !.
But it would appear, in this case in could be a problem with the Smart Rolec wall box.
Another hurdle to jump, but the winning post is clearly in sight.

I am inclined to think it is the MG software that is the problem
I can't be bothered raising it with the dealer ,perhaps I should,but I do understand your frustration
