Hi Everyone,
MG EV newbie, but not EV newbie. I'm collecting my used 24 plate ZS Long Range Trophy Connect on Tuesday. By the time I get it home, I will need to top it up. Because at that moment in time I haven't installed MG Ismart, can I set c.harging Limit from car. I have Octopus IOG. Hopefully I won't have any problem binding Ismart, but you never know.

Yes, you can set it to charge to 80% on long range model. Look it up in the instructions manual, few clicks on the infotainment screen and it's done.

Call the dealer and ask them to unbind the previous owner and then try to bind the car in the showroom (don't expect much!). Mine took a few days to bind and I had to email my VIN number to MG customer services... Search forum for messages on binding.

The dealer isn't MG. I suspect it could still have old owner. Will check it when I get home, and if need be ring MG. Thank You Fred12345
You must check that the car comes with full annual service record with MG authorised garage before collection - if not serviced annually, warranty is void.

What's the mileage? From memory, first service is due at 15,000 miles or 12 months, whichever sooner. (Correct me if wrong)

Your local MG garage might help. When I was buying my second hand ZS, I called to book future service and asked about previous service records. It's all online, they told me all the details...

HaHa,

When I asked about the car, he said, we have done a service. Not happy with that. After a long conversation spoke to MG, and I will get the car serviced again. ( The car is 10 months old. ). Great mines think a like.

I kept updating my post it the meantime, just seen this ... 🙂👍.

I picked up our SE on Friday and tried binding yesterday but that didn't work. Requested unbind from the app. It put the binding in pending mode and sent a request to previous owner. As long as they do not reject - after an hour or two the unbind is approved.

I managed to bind later yesterday and enabled digital key too

I believe the latest version of the app allows you to unbind a previous account.

But how does his app know what car to unbind ?

I find it strange if this is possible, i mean, someone nicking my keys and then my car would then be able to unbind my car from my phone and just bind it to their own, effectively making it impossible for me to track my stolen car.

I sincerely hope that unbinding a car can only be done by either:

1. The previous owner unbinding it from their app.
2. A certified MG garage can request an unbind upon receiving proof of change of ownership.

If you had the app bound to your phone number / email, any unbind requests will come to that phone / email.. yes you only have limited time to cancel it but that is how it worked when I tried binding.

3 hours in total from me requesting unbind to getting this.

So thief enters your house through the door you forgot to lock, nicks the keys at 1AM, promptly drives 1 mile down the road and start the unbinding process, your phone notifies you, but your phone is on silent when you sleep so when you wake up at 7AM you see a notification telling you, your car has been unbound from your app because you did not reply before 4AM....

Sounds to me like i need to buy an independent tracker and hide in the car, otherwise i might lose it and the thief can make it so, that i will not be able to track it.

Car thefts are not uncommon. Yes mechanism is a bit questionable though.. not denying that. Again not something I came up with - just what I encountered

Yeah i am not blaming you, if they made this a 24 hour proces it would be safer (But still not foolproof, could nick a key from someone at the airport and do the unbinding anyway, while people were on vacation)

I have zs I wS also told that the service record is held on line. But I've never been able to get any further.
With no assistance or interest from the dealers. In ellemere port.
😠

Between your Tesla and MG on offer, I think MG is safe ... 😂

Any MG service garage will have access to digital records. Next time you need to service, call another garage and ask them to print it for you when you come for service. If they say no, go elsewhere. I would. Try emailing MG customer service. They take ages to reply to emails but might help. I had good experience with them so far.

My Tesla can only be stolen if they take my phone and even so, they are unable to unbind it, unless they also get access to my username, password and 2FA codes. The 2FA is on the phone though, but they are not likely to ever be able to unlock it :)

I actually read somewhere that the Tesla does not update the location unless the wheels are spinning or has just been spinning, so if someone takes it onto a flatbed it will not update the location.

In that case its kind of useless as well. :)

My understanding borne out by my recent experience was:
The previously "binded" person is messaged to tell them they are being "unbinded". They can respond to allow or deny that request. If they do not respond at all then 72 hrs later you are messaged in app to say the car is "unbinded" at which point you can bind yourself to the car.
Contacting MG is a backup to that automated process, perhaps if the previous "binded" account denies the unbind.
Another post mentioned not to repeat the unbind request as it reset the 72hr timer.

I did realise I should have known and checked this with the dealership pre-sale as they could have ensured it was "unbinded". It was an MG shop and I find it crazy they hadn't checked this themselves!

Gotta love the Chinese terminology..."binded", "unbinded" 😂

Our Tesla would be at risk if they managed to get to my watch / phone / wallet. They aren't coming for MG any time soon
