Controlling the heating system

I guess that in High mode the fan speed would be higher in order to push a greater volume of air through the car.

You're probably right, but in Auto mode I would expect the fan speed to be variable, for example, for heating the car, when it's first started sbd cold it should be low until it warmed up then increase to high until it got up to temperature and then back down again once up to temperature, that's what I expect auto to do, so where does the air volume play it's part. I started this post because what happens after travelling say 15 minutes, I get a blast of cold air on high fan speed and I have to come out of auto and lower the fan speed and increase the temperature trying to compensate. Currently I have it set on Auto and the air volume in low which appears to work ok, but even then if I change it to medium or high there appears to be no change, but I'm only doing short trips again the moment and I still want to understand what's happening.

I sometimes drive a Vauxhall Combo van at work and its heating controls are like the MG. They go from cold to super heated in just a couple of degrees and the temperature suggested by the control is different from the experience. Other than that, I like the heating (and cooling) in the car.

Has anyone found a video on youtube for the recommended aircon / heater settings and what all the options do?
Yes, but none that explain this

Hi Pine,

You were on the money. I just got this reply from MG Custome5r Services:
"In most modern cars, the fan speed control in Auto Mode is generally fully automatic, meaning that the system decides the appropriate fan speed (low, medium, or high) based on the cabin conditions relative to the target temperature set by the user.

However, the MG3 allows a bit of customization within auto mode, letting the user choose a preferred intensity level while keeping the system's automated adjustments intact.

So for example, if you wanted to go from 21 degrees to 25 degrees in the quickest way, you would select High flow.

The system would use this along with temp sensors ,recirc position, mixer position etc.. and algorithms in the system to achieve this.

If you wanted a gradual change, then of course you’d select Low air volume."

So, now we can understand what it is supposed to do. I have left my setting on Low whihc is the closest I can get to normal Auto air con, if you switch to high it blasts out cold air until it gets up to temperature, all it seems to do is put the fan(s) on full blast until it achieves it. I suppose that closes off this post.

I find the heating control works better on the MG3 Hybrid than it did on my previous ZS EV, which was very unpredictable in its operation.

Unfortunatley, due to access problems for us (both very senior citizens) I am changing to the MG ZS Hybrid I know we can get in and out of that having had the ZS EV previously.

Before the comments come in about test drive, we did have one and felt it would be ok, but after frequent daily stops in and out it is too small (I know an expensive mistake). Other than the access, the MG3 Hybrid was a wonderful car and I enjoyed driving it.

Hopefully the heating in the ZS Hybrid will be just as good

I have similar problems but it's still better to get in and out of our old Peugeot 207. I also have a C3 Picasso which is wonderful to get in and out of so I looked to change that for the ZS but like the MG3 it doesn't have the steering wheel adjustment in & out and the bigger HS that dies have that is far too big for my wife to drive, but we are getting to the point where we really only need one car. The new MG3 hasn't even done a 1,000 miles yet in 2 months

I can't seem to get the heating right. I presumed full auto would be the norm, but it's far too blowy and doesn't heat the interior, the fast fan just creates cold air So I switched off auto and put the fan on number 1 the lowest at 23c and it seemed ok, tried 24c but it got very hot, whereas 22c was cold, it needs to be 23.5c but that's not an option. However, it isn't stable, it frequently blows cold fur no reason. I have looked at the air flow settings, which has Low, Medium & High but I have no idea what the settings are supposed to do and any none of them seem to make any changes. Has anyone got any guidance on this?
maybe I'm late or it has been answered already.... log/medium/high is for the auto mode only - not for manual settings. put it on auto and the the auto fan setting on low and it will blow less in auto mode. as soon as you manually change the fan speed the auto mode is cancelled.

I've not found a way to get warm air to the driver's footwell adequately and be able to hear my music, The passenger side gets too hot, and then the windows are opened, can this car get any worse?

Probably have not discovered some things yet as I rarely drive the damned thing

I did get an answer some time ago from MG support who said that the auto fan setting was an added functionality for poeple who wanted a higher flow of outside air. I didn't relay this to the forum as I really didn't see the point - I just leave it on auto and adjust the temperature. What I have found is that I need to lower the temperature from 24 (my preferred normal temperature) to 22 when I travel at 70mph compared to around town speeds as it getts too hot, I can only presume this has to do with the increased air flow created by the faster speed. No big deal, but still quirky for what is quite a clever car.

Does anyone know exactly what the air flow options in the Aircon settings do? The options are low, medium and high, I've tried them all but it doesn't seem to change anything
If you set the temp and use the Auto setting you will get the variable fan speed depending on the set temp, the temperature inside and outside the car and the engine temp. Setting the option to low will, on average, give you a lower fan speed but it is still variable in speed. Normal will increase the fan speed and high will be the fastest and most aggressive fan speed / air flow.
You have to give each setting a good trial period to appreciate the difference.
