Please do report this to Which? magazine as they are very interested in MG LKA, they may be able to offer some advice. I'm sorry your daughter has had to experience this due to MG's lack of care.
The more exposure the better it can only be a good thing for the customer in the long run (MG have to change their attitude to after sales)Seconded. Definitely tell Which? magazine. There's a thread somewhere with an email address.
Once the cheque has cleared and the keys handed over , the customer now becomes a pain in the posterior.Good luck, all the legal stuff can only be a good thing and may assist everyone long-term in getting MG to step up and take responsibility for all their cars' characteristics!!
All they want to do is sell cars and that's where the service stops
I'd like to know more about that EU regulation??Thing is, I'm using a EU regulation to make them understand they need to step up, or to pay me back. Not sure you can use the same arguments in Scotland.
To make a long story short the major part of my complaints deal with software. LKA is one of them.I'd like to know more about that EU regulation??
Thanks a mill... I'll have a look at that.To make a long story short the major part of my complaints deal with software. LKA is one of them.
The LKA system (ELKS as described in the regulation (EU) 2021/646) has some mandatory characteristics, particularly described in the technical part of the document. I use them to show that my MG4 is not compliant with the technical requirements mentioned in this regulation.
As I understand it, early versions of the software allowed the LKA to be switched off and stay off, however this should not have been like that, and subsequent updates changed it so that it always defaulted to on. There are a few people around who have refused all software updates in order to preserve the ability to leave the LKA permanently off.
Thank you Melanie...this is all very helpful. When I went into the dealer to book in for my second service I told them I wanted it disabling - forever. They say (paraphrasing) "its our biggest complaint but because its a safety feature we can't disable it". I work in product safety, albeit not in cars, and I told them if customers were coming to us saying a safety system was being turned off all the time because it was causing issues we would have launched a full investigation immediately.
Given the car I test drove had it disabled (it did not come back on at all) I do feel a bit misled with the car, when it wouldn't stay off. Though its a bit late for me to play that card now two years down the line. Somebody somewhere must have figured out how to do it.
If the insurers or anybody turn around and say "driver inexperience - no dice" I would be more than happy to write a statement for you as backup to say just how awful the system is. In fact the only other vehicular electronics I have encountered that were as dangerous was the traction control system on the 2006 Mustang GT I owned, but at least that janky thing could be disabled with the push of a button on the dash.
It's would certainly help if manufacturers did competent R&D before dumping their crap on the unsuspecting customer to beta test for them. The manufactures can't win, owners complain about the systems and NCAP mark them down if they turn them off

Euro NCAP says it doesn’t recommend the BYD Atto 3’s adaptive cruise control system, given that it “effectively switches off” after periods of driver inactivitywww.autoexpress.co.uk

To clarify a part of it:Probably not, although Scotland voted overwhelming to stay in the EU, unfortunately it didn't work out that way
To be fair, I test drove an Audi Q4 E-tron, the LKA was more aggressive than the MG. I don't have a real issue with it on main roads, but on narrow B-roads it has done quite scary things!
Has anybody turned off the LKA only to have it reset itself 5-10 mins later. This happens frequently.Thank you Melanie...this is all very helpful.
