DAB RADIO

Sorry for miss information, just collected car from dealers, windscreen aerial still in place , and was told oh yes, we are waiting for the modules and the single USB plate, I commented to the person you said “chips” this morning, oh yeah same thing!

So looks like we are never going to get a proper working DAB radio with pre-sets. ☹

Its just lie after lie. Both MG and the main dealerships know exactly what they are doing. Appalling customer service as there seems we have very few avenues to explore. I will never buy another MG or use this dealership again

If it’s a new HS then it’s a Mk2 which has the new version of the software with the later RBRM unit which runs on the current software.
The cars that were missing the Uk spec RBRM were all mk1 Hs’s mostly manufactured during 2022. It wasn’t a chip they were missing , it was the complete Uk spec module.

I got my HS in September 2022, over a year later I had a radio installed which really was not good enough, they covered one of the usb ports and I was still unable to save any pre-set on radio.
I am so happy that I no longer have this car, it would have been 2 years in September.

MG dont give a ****. Simple as, they don't even respond via their customer service (joke) email. I have given up and just use Android Auto. They will have covered themselves legally so I doubt we would get anywhere, we would be better off writing to Auto Express or the likes to see if they could spur MG on to do something. I even have a module kindly donated by a forum member and I cannot get my local MG garage to fit it without a cost, why should I pay to fix MG's problems?? The garage cannot get to speak with MG either complete waste of time.

What module have you acquired and would this correctly fix the missing DAB?

It is a RBRM module. Radio broadcast receiver module. When installed together with the correct DAB software files it restores full DAB and Fm including RDS
Thanks, this is very interesting. I wonder if anyone has successfully fixed their missing DAB via this method.

Yes it is the correct spec. When they talked about chip shortage it was actually the chip in the RBRM module they were missing. I obtained a correct module and my set is working on full specifications. If you can find a second hand RBRM module and get it installed and configured it will work as originally intended.

However it needs to be a windows version one as fitted to the pre facelift of 2023 otherwise it will not work.
The post facelift models have an android based system although functionality is similar but not exactly the same. The map functions are completely different as the facelift gives three years free updates whereas the early ones only give 1 free update within three months of new.

Really helpful information thanks. I have this pre face-lift model also. Can I ask who you got to 'install and configure' the module you acquired. I am wondering if it is a specialist programming job or 'plug and play' repair.

Mg dealers can install and configure the correct module with the DAB files, but the issue is finding a correct module. The chip shortage coincided withMg changing the car software over to the facelift version, so the correct module number is very scarce indeed.as darts’s I know, m.
There is no stock in Mg garages so the best bet is one from a crashed car.

Thanks again for your help... I suppose knowing that the crashed car had working DAB in the first place is the tricky bit also.

Not really. If it had two usb sockets and the RBRM was fitted it had a full function radio.
Basic fm and am is installed on the head unit, so cars which had the aerial stuck to the screen had no RBRM module installed

Ahh OK, I incorrectly assumed all cars had the RBRM unit (some without DAB chip installed). So by that logic, acquiring this unit means it has DAB (as the non DAB cars did not have RBRM). Definitely a route I am looking into thanks.

I have the same issues. i have now had the MG upgrade which removes the windscreen aerial and permanently removes a USB port. It is tidier but no performance improvement. In addition my FM stations dont show the station names even when saved. The problem with this is that on journeys where you move across a radio transmitter it does not retune to the best signal so you see loss of station.

MG have notified my dealer that the radio will not be further improved. This is the fix.

I notice that this issue seems to be on lots of models. Do you think we could have a thread for DAB radio issues. If there are enough of us we might start a class action or involve Martin Lewis. Bad Publicity is often the only way to get things fixed.

I would imagine there are tens of thousands of mg vehicles impacted by this ridiculous dab work around.

Was thinking of getting a used EHS with the usb DAB antenna. Made me think if they cheaped out on anything else during the chip shortage.. Any ideas?
