The issue being that you can’t polish matte paint. If the dealer cleans and preps the car any defects caused by transportation will be easier to spot than if it's covered with muck and dust and they should either repair or arrange to have it repaired. If you clean and find a scratch or chip tough.
In my view let the dealer prep the car but not apply any protective coating, and as you've already said you'll be taking it to a specialist detailer, they will polish and remove any washing swirls anyway.
You’re not helping ?I spent a long time checking mine armed with a long list from this site !!
- bulging undertray
- oil leak
- under bonnet felt lining is present
- noisy aircon
- poor panel gaps
- unmarked alloys
- uniform tyres and no tyre warnings on dash
- all windows operated OK
- all doors fitted well and shut well
- all windows operated up and down
- all boot accessories and charging cable present
- no dents or scratches anywhere (get right down low and look down panels and look at reflections and how they move as you move your head!)
- VIN number matches what you’ve been given.
- Reg plates are level and correct reg
- All lights work
- steering wheel is not misaligned
- get the salesman to hook up ISMART App and CarPlay/AA (take a working cable) and make sure they work.
- Get a receipt of tax confirmation
- checkout infotainment screen shows what it should
- Get all paperwork
- I’m sure there’s more !!
Be ready to walk away and get any faults fixed by the dealer before paying balance.
