Do you use the technology in your EV to be a better driver?

I thought that it might be useful to discuss how our driving habits and skills may have changed with the latest technology we have in our cars. Have we adapted or are we just driving like we did 40 Years ago?

So - maintaining a good distance using the camera/radar technology, automatic braking, speed sign recognition, MG pilot, smart satnav, voice control this sort of thing. Do you sue it? Is it wasted on you? Do you love it? What would you like to see?

I’ll kick off with speed limits (always a contentious issue). I like being able to just push a button and stay at the speed limit - although it does take away some of your skills to maintain a consistent speed with you right foot unaided over time! Although some have never been able to achieve this!
I use this a lot and find it works really well for me.

A quick rant on speed limits! The 2 most abused speed limits? 30 & 60. How many times do you travel behind a car driver in a 60mph limit who gets nowhere near 60mph? Leading to frustration and lines of traffic behind them. 40mph is quite a common speed that they adopt (universally) and then when the limit hits a 30mph they carry on at the same speed. The same drivers then bitterly complain when they get fined and points on license. They were doing -20mph below the legal limit and then 10mph above! Rant over.

So, does/will technology help these drivers? Do they care? Do they know the speed limits? Are you one of these drivers who always drives well below the speed limit ‘just in case’ without actually ever getting up to the limit?

I'm still playing with the gadgets in my car, so I won't say I'm using them all the time. I will sometimes use things like Pilot if I'm in the mood, but for the most part, I still go tech free. Speed limiting can be very handy at times, and as traffic increases, I'll probably use it more for things like busy motorways.

As far as better driving goes, on a personal level, I feel there are many aspects of driving that really need an overhaul. Lane discipline has been in the toilet for a long time , and that's only the tip of a pretty big iceberg.

I use all these things, also I use LKA + MSA so that I get regen on motorways and sometimes ACC to polish the rust on the brake discs.

Er no not really  I was certain I wanted an electric car after 50 years of mostly driving old classic cars, I was lucky if they had a working heater  I've had more than my fair share of weird & wonderful cars & quite a lot of V8 cars that struggled to get into double figures on mileage o_O

I opted for the Excite model as all the wells & whistles of new tech would quite frankly be wasted on me & I know my missus who uses the car more than I do isn't that way inclined either.

Having said that I'm absolutely loving the quiet smooth ride of the ZS EV and it's a joy to get behind the wheel (when this pandemic madness abates) and the almost one pedal driving is a blast of which I keep telling my friends who look at me in disbelief as my last car was a 1965 390 C.I. (6.4 ltr) Ford Thunderbird which I owned for more than twenty years.

I'm sure I'll get into it more later on even though I've still not sorted a mobile phone out yet or this app malarkey :D
