Do you use the technology in your EV to be a better driver?
I thought that it might be useful to discuss how our driving habits and skills may have changed with the latest technology we have in our cars. Have we adapted or are we just driving like we did 40 Years ago?
So - maintaining a good distance using the camera/radar technology, automatic braking, speed sign recognition, MG pilot, smart satnav, voice control this sort of thing. Do you sue it? Is it wasted on you? Do you love it? What would you like to see?
I’ll kick off with speed limits (always a contentious issue). I like being able to just push a button and stay at the speed limit - although it does take away some of your skills to maintain a consistent speed with you right foot unaided over time! Although some have never been able to achieve this!
I use this a lot and find it works really well for me.
A quick rant on speed limits! The 2 most abused speed limits? 30 & 60. How many times do you travel behind a car driver in a 60mph limit who gets nowhere near 60mph? Leading to frustration and lines of traffic behind them. 40mph is quite a common speed that they adopt (universally) and then when the limit hits a 30mph they carry on at the same speed. The same drivers then bitterly complain when they get fined and points on license. They were doing -20mph below the legal limit and then 10mph above! Rant over.
So, does/will technology help these drivers? Do they care? Do they know the speed limits? Are you one of these drivers who always drives well below the speed limit ‘just in case’ without actually ever getting up to the limit?
How do you use the technology in your EV to become a better driver?
