Door water drainage?

Think of it as therapy...get your concerns out there and relieve your mental stress...this forum is vital to the MG4 nations wellbeing as we have a large number of therapist's waiting to help...or jolt you back to reality?

Ok so i just checked my 4 year old VW group Seat Ateca. It also has large black plastic panels on the outside lower door sections like the MG4.

There are no drain holes in the bottom of the doors.

Id suggest they may be hidden under the exterior plastic moulding

There goes the environmentally friendly reason to own an EV
I’m not a Environmentalist! I bought the car for ease of maintenance & hopefully durability

Good example of recycling if you ask me.
It does & it still works! Done it to all my cars & never had a rust problem

Except most of the oil eventually ends up on the road and therefore in the drainage system and our waterways.
No that’s why I make it sticky with chain oil mate … not one drop on my garage floor!

I can honestly say the last thing im doing to my car is pretending its a 1975 cortina and spreading an evil mix of oily gunge all over the underside.

As far as i am aware the underside is a fully covered plastic sheet that doesn’t rust? With most of the area under that being the battery.

So you basically coated your battery in gunge thats going to attract and stick every bit of road dirt under it.

I dont know anyone in the last 30 years thats had a car suffer from floor pan rusting. Most cars scrap now because of accident damage and engine issues.

I suspect battery failure is going to scrap your car long before rust does.

I'm sure there are drainage holes in the doors, visible or not, despite the doom and gloom merchants prevalent on here.
Each time it's rained, and I open a door, there are signs of water drops on the sill surfaces under the door. There is also a small dribble of water from toward the front lower surface of the door. Not a lot, but assuming the window seals are still intact, I wouldn't expect to see much anyway.

And my doors don't slosh as I drove around is another indicator of there being some form or drainage in place

Chocolate digestive

This car has a few faults, I've heard!
It's not going to have glaring obvious ones like no draining holes

On the Ateca example i gave earlier there are a couple of tiny slots in the corners of the plastic that might be water exit points. The cover wraps over the bottom edge so water would spill out there anyway.

When i bought my 32 yo mx5 16 years ago the sills had blocked drain slots. A common fault which can rust the sills out as they fill with water.

You could clearly hear the waves as you braked!

Well all I know is every car that I’ve ever owned had rust on the chassis components & I wish to prevent it or at least try to. Not wanting to be disrespectful If your happy leaving your car the way it comes out of the factory then that’s your choice.

That's the third time you've said that. ;)
Posted my reply twice but didn’t show when I went back into the forum so I did it a third time! I obviously missed them or there was a big delay?
