Drive selector top

Car went in for a service today, raised the issue of a peeling finish on the Drive selector top.

Returned as it was, the fault is classed as a trim issue which only has a 2 year warranty. They want to replace the entire selector at £172

I read on hear a couple of thread that peopl have been able to get just the top piece as it is just glued on. Are these available from MG and if so what part number please?

I replaced mine as it had started lifting. It cost £16.95 from my local MG Dealer. It’s just a stick-on piece that replaces just the top bit. I will post the part number up tomorrow if someone doesn’t beat me to it.

If the whole selector needs replacing then that is NOT a trim component and should be covered under warranty.

Not withstanding that I have found the part number 10709105 and is the same as fitted to the ZS EV. I have even more of an issue with the dealer quoting £172 when the part actually needed is £17.

I doubt anything will come of it but I have complained to MG customer service.

Having received a new selector top in the post (annoyed with paying postage but wouldn't buy it from the local stealer as a matter of principle) replaced it it about 10 minutes.

Using the new button as a template I cut a hole in a piece of thick hard card (a bonio box) to act as a heat deflector. Positioned it over the selector and heated with a hot air gun on low heat. The plastic is quite thick and the heat has to get through the sticky pad as well so you have to be a little brave and which is why I made the mask.

I then used a plastic case opener to pry off the old button which came off very easily, definitely hot as the old top actually bent. No visible residue at all but I did clean it with some IPA. Easy to fit the new button as it has an alignment pin to match with the clear plastic base.

As I said for about 10 minutes work saves in the order of £150

I prefer my IPA in a pint glass (temporarily).

This IPA would definitely do your brain cells no good
