Hi,
Has anyone else had issues with Handbrake not automatically coming on when you stop the car and the engine?
My driveway is on a slight hill and on a couple of occasions when I pull up with my foot on the brake pedal the handbrake has not engaged causing me a few near misses with parking the car in the lounge!!
It has also happened a few times when parking normally on flat surfaces.
Just wondering if its me doing something wrong or has anyone else experienced this problem?

I mostly park on our flat driveway and never had an issue with brakes engaging automatically. Had an instance or two where pressing accelerator did not disengage the brakes and I had to manually release the hand brake

The parking brake doesn’t just engage when you stop. You either need to apply the parking brake manually by pulling the parking brake switch or put your gear into ‘Park’. Maybe I suggest you press the ‘A’ button next to the park brake switch for engaging auto hold. With this enabled it will hold the car every time you come to a complete stop. But forget you still need to apply the parking brake before leaving the vehicle.

Pressing park is as automatic a reaction for me as manually applying the handbrake on a standard car.

like Hermitdave, i never had the brake not autoapplying, it works automatically every time.
but a few times it does not release by itself.

I think the car behaves differently if it detects it's on a slope.

I've had this a few times and noticed that the slower I brake the more likely it is for the auto brake to engage. If I brake more harshly the less likely it is to engage.

Thanks everyone for your advice, Going to press P now whenever I park up.
I have done this from day one.
Foot firmly pressed on the footbrake ( on my driveway ) shift the gear selector to “N” and then press the “P” button on the gear selector.
At the same time, listen for the rear hand brake motors to wind out and activate.
Now, slowly release the pressure from the foot brake.
Our ZS EV is almost two years old now and I have adopted this pattern from day one.

Just my 2 cents . I completely disabled the auto hold function , because I don't want some electronic device constantly pushing my brake pads together when I come to a complete stop. I don't like the wear and tear it gives. I would rather have an electronic handbrake that works like a charm everytime. (Which is the same device)

on the ZS right next to the electrobic handbrske us a mother similar switch marked A. it sets the Auto assist handbrake to on/off... does the HS have it?

Yes the HS phev has it. I personally like it as when you stop ( for example in traffic) the auto hold ( handbrake?) comes on , so you can take your foot of the brake pedal. When you touch the accelerator , then it releases and you start moving.

Does it create wear and tear if the vehicle is not moving when it applies and releases the brakes?

Answer : no and yes.

If not moving the electronic handbrake is still applied and is still working for you pressing down on the brake discs as if it were a handbrake.
If U start moving again and u accelerate like me sometimes, the auto hold function just does not release quickly enough, which will give wear on the brake pads and discs.

If U like the "auto hold" function it's ok , just remember that you are using the same braking device for the "auto hold" as the handbrake uses.
These two options just share the same electronic device.
And I would like to keep mine fresh for my daily handbrake uses. ?
