I must be very unlucky and I'm sure you're all very bored hearing about it, BUT the Emissions fault warning is back again!
This time I have left the fuel cap off, will go back in half hour, replace it, and also disconnect the 12V battery to see if it resets the problem.
Unusually I looked at the handbook in the Smart app, but the European version (by accident) and unlike the UK version i subsequently found, it talks about the following- if you disconnect the battery to leave the car locked for four hours to allow the stop/start to recalibrate- there is no stop/start it's a Hybrid!!!!! As I say no mention of the need to recalibrate in the UK handbook.
I'm guessing Europe will be getting a non hybrid engine, possibly ahead of the UK, which would be why the Start/Stop is mentioned. Just a little detail for others to be aware of.
I have to say I've never owned a car where there is repeating failures of this nature!

Is it after you fill up or is it at anytime. I mentioned my previous issue with same with my HS but that was because I filled up to brim leaving cap off for a length of time resolved and I was then more careful filling up. After getting rid of HS and buying the MG3 I only fill to first click of pump.
Did you cancel your appointment with dealer to check.

Thanks for the reply. As mentioned previously I did try your idea of leaving the cap off for about half hour, and a few days later as one others have said, the light went out.
Today a minute or two after starting the light was back on…
By the way resetting by disconnecting the battery made no difference!

I do have an appointment on the 23rd but I can’t make that, so will have to see on Monday the next available time with courtesy car.
I did think when the light went out I would be ok, but cleaning there is a deeper issue here.

Of course, this defeats the purpose of the tight fitting cap: preventing petrol vapour from entering the atmosphere.

I hope that this problem is figured out soon.
All I know is I read at the time overfilling caused the light to come on . Think I read it was due to petrol entering a vent hole near top of the filling neck to allow tank to breathe and stop a vacuum forming, older cars had a vented fuel cap. I didn't drive around with cap off for 30 min to clear the fault.

Hi
I think this could be the catalytic needs a burn out by take the car on a run on a fast road for about 20 miles and if over filled will help this as well.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately I have tried everything, including your suggestion as I had to use the car for a 100 mile round trip, but the warning remains.
The car is going in again to Glyn Hopkins St Albans on Tuesday, so they can have 'another go' at fixing it.
I certainly think the economy takes a drop when the fault is present, and yesterday I got another warning about the hybrid system, however this went away after a minute so just one of the spurious messages you get from time to time!

There is something gone down would think there would be a record on the computer as a fault code.

Yep they will have to put on the diagnostic equipment, but I think they are going to need input from MG Technical. To that end I rang MG Customer Service, and to be fair the advisor said he would send a note to the Technical department, so hopefully they will have some ideas for when the dealer gers in touch on Tuesday.
Given how the fuel cap seems to have played a role with other owners on this site with similar issue, I wonder if that's the culprit, or maybe a faulty Oxygen sensor. Either way as I said to MG Customer Service, I don't want this to become a merry-go-round of continual failure and trips to the dealer!

Hi
I wish you luck hope they find the problem, what was the problem with the fuel cap ? Did it have a leak so would not pressurise.

By way of an update, my MG3 remains with the dealer, as they continue with MG technical to try and resolve the issue.
I get the impression that they haven’t got a clue at the moment!!
Meantime I learnt the new HS has a warning light issue that they haven’t got a clue about as well
All in all this does raise concerns!!!

Did the issue resolved? I have the same problem with an MG3 hybrid

Yes the problem was resolved with a further software update. The problem centered around the EGR sensor, I have a feeling that the parameters around when the fault is triggered have been widened as part of the update.

A continuation to the story. I received a call from my dealer out of the blue, apparently the part is now in! Not knowing what they were talking about, I enquired as to what the part is.
It turns out it's a new EGR valve, which MG TECHNICAL have determined needs replacing even though the problem was resolved.
The dealer said that they had another car with the same problem, and MG want all the valves back from any customer cars that have had this issue.
So my car is due to go in on thd 2nd December...
