EV Grant Slashed

I personally totally agree with lowering the maximum price threshold - if you can afford a £50K car you can afford to miss out on the subsidy! It will soon drop again until it's abolished all together.

It was £5K originally with no limit on the list price of the car - £100K+ cars were getting a free £5K off the list price!

The grant was soon reduced to £4.5K and in September 2018 it was reduced to £3.5K and again in March 2020 to £3K.
They should have increased the amount given to lower priced EV's to help less well off people get into electric cars and help with mass adoption of EV's

I'd rather they put the money into the charging infrastructure than the PICG (plug in car grant)

Tesla prices on their website increased to the new levels immediately for new orders.

I wonder if this will impact on MG’s new Marvel R pricing - stuff like this is a major factor for marketing people.

I also don’t think it will be too long before the end of zero RFL on EVs and other ICE cars that fit into the exemption category that existed. I personally think that would be the right thing to do as these vehicles place just as much wear & tear on the roads as any other car. There will also be a in increasing revenue hole to fill as the % of EVs on the road increases - not to mention the gradual reduction into the coffers from fuel duty & associated VAT. Whilst this would be true in more normal times, it’s especially true now due to the massive Govt spending caused by the pandemic.
