Hi there. I pick up my MG sz even 2020 model in eight days. This will be my first EV. Any tips or pointers would be gratefully received. ??

My tips would be; get the Zap-Map app for public chargers, get A Better Route Planner for planning long journeys, and go to a rapid charger and try it before you need it for real.

Lots of different companies and different apps. If you’ve got frequent journeys / service stations / car parks you use get the apps in advance.

Also try podpoint for your nearest free charger (taking note of any parking restrictions etc)

Not all chargers work. So don’t rely on a specific one just in case

Although, you can set a filter in Zap-Map to show only contactless card payments, which negates the need for all the apps and RFID fobs. I only use contactless chargers. Instavolt and Osprey are very reliable and are usually sited at pubs, hotels and leisure centres with good ameneties.

I’m in Notts as well, Newark actually. At the moment, just keep reading this forum and ASK QUESTIONS! No matter how stupid you think they might be - don’t forget, we were all newbies once! Do research as well. Watch some You-Tube videos from EV and MG5 owners or testers.
We are all quite human on here and someone will be able to supply the answers. Which dealer are you getting it through! Squeeze as much time with their salespeople as possible because you are their customer and if they are bothered they will try to explain away your questions. Go back with further questions as well. I bought mine from Warners in Lincoln and the chaps there were tremendous.
Anyway, best of luck with the the new adventure. I doubt you will be disappointed.

Hi,
Like others a have said PodPoint to start a free charge at supermarkets, Shell slao have free ones in car parks.
Instavolt and Osprey maybe a little more but are clean and work well.
Have a look at the Electric Juice card from Octopus Energy as there are no pre authorisation fees as it goes straight onto your Octopus bill.
Don't forget your type 2 cable needed for fast chargers.

When you brake, make sure your right foot clears the accelerator pedal, otherwise you tend to press stop & go together. can feel very disconcerting at the time. Because there is no revving engine noise, it can confuse you. good luck

Never happens to me because I only use my right foot, the left is tucked up close to my seat. When driving an automatic, the proper procedure is one-foot operation, just the right foot. You will quickly get out of the habit of the old manual operation of the car, using both your feet.

My right foot is not big enough to depress both pedals at the same time. Newcomers to driving manual used to have the same problem of accidentally depressing both the accelerator and the brake.

It's not something that ever affected me during normal operation but you can sometimes run into a problem if you are driving with stout working boots on.

I sometimes get the heel stuck under the brake pedal if I go out on a date wearing my wife's high heels.
