EV opposition in the media is ramping up

He can do what he likes. The problem is that he has such a huge following and they're all lapping up the anti-EV stuff.

I think he's basically a "useful idiot". I don't know what prompted him to buy a £120,000 car that by his own account seems to be very unsuitable for his needs. I have a suspicion he doesn't hate it as much as he makes out though - he occasionally slips and remarks on what a great drive it is. But as far as I can make out he already had a YouTube channel that people watched. I think he figured out that people will watch anti-EV propaganda and decided to start making these videos for clicks and giggles.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's basically happy as Larry with the car, but doing a Geoff Conlon act. I suspect he's making plenty money off the channel, and doesn't care what methods he uses. He might even keep the Taycan past the end of the compulsory lease period, or move on to another EV.

Not really an issue for MG4 owners as the granny lead (which is what this article is about) tends to come with the car. :) And the article is wrong anyway ... they're not chargers, they're charge leads. (The charger is built into the car).

Now if they'd done an assessment of Type 2 charge leads then it would have been a more interesting article.

For the Daily Fail, I thought that was quite responsible. It's the advice I would give to any new owner asking for recommendations, buy from a reputable outlet and make sure it's up to UK safety standards (i.e, avoid AliExpress and the like).

I agree. The actual article was good, concentrating on warning people against dodgy products, and acknowledging that new cars will come with a safe device. It wasn't anti-EV, and didn't blame the cars.

Definitely. I bought some LED strip lights and the transformer came with a weird molded plug with no fuse. I thought it was weird, but plugged it in anyway and the spark and bang it made was quite impressive. Luckily I know where my consumer unit was.

My goodness. The DM is really ramping it up. I continue to fight the good fight on their discussion boards but get absolutely battered with red arrows and abusive comments. I will still keep going though as I believe changing just one person's mind is a success.

Meh, whatever. The media can do whatever they want, but they’re not going to stem the tide of history. Auto manufacturers all over the world are moving with all deliberate speed toward an electric future. What the media says about it is utterly irrelevant.

I don’t argue with stupid people on the internet. All it does is raise my blood pressure, and in the end, they’re still stupid.

Yep, never argue with stupid people ... ;)

Also this one ... ;)

Trying to use reason and logic to argue with a stupid person is like trying to play chess with a pigeon. The pigeon just knocks all the pieces over, shits all over the board, then struts around like it won.

I can't help feeling that these frothing videos about how EVs are useless and we're all just trying to deny that we realised we made a huge mistake are going to be hilarious to watch in a few years time, when a substantial proportion of the population are driving EVs and most of the rest wish they were.

My son was such a sceptic when my wife and I bought the first MGZS. Also thought solar was a waste of time although I thought San Diego California had to be just about the prime place.
However, their roof has just been totally renovated and I think 20 plus panels installed and he’s put a deposit on the new Ram electric pickup to replace the current gas gulper Ram. His wife’s riding out the lease on the Jag F type and no electrification reports yet from her. What heating they need, all the cooking and heating water for the huge pool is all by gas,
