EV opposition in the media is ramping up

Noticed that to, lead with a story stating car fires and use an EV for heading picture. Also reading down the article it does not explicitly state EVs are not impacted. Sure we all know they don't have oil pumps but the lay person may not.

I've put in a complaint to the BBC. First time ever! :)

Isn't it strange that the Daily Fail haven't jumped on this story . . . I thought they enjoyed reporting vehicle fires? Oh, no, wait . . . that's electric vehicle fires isn't it. :)

ICE Vehicles Causing Fire Havoc

The recent calamaty surrounding fires on ships carrying ICE vehicles is now being seen as a more serious problem than thought. ICE vehicle manufacturers are now warning owners not to park near populated areas, houses, places of work or any confined space. This is due to their cars bursting into flames. Once on fire the combustibles (petrol, diesel, LPG (not hydrogen cause they couldnt find any) etc) ensure that the fire is extremely difficult to put out. Electric vehicles are not included in the release.

Goodness, you're right. There's no mention in the article that the problem affects only ICE cars, and all the talk about electrical systems could easily lead readers to assume that they're talking about EVs.

This is actually remarkably sensible, especially given who's talking.

Interesting article in the Guardian
At last, an article which reports facts without biased opinion. Quoting Quentin Willson is always a good sign.

I'm sure there would have been similar polarisation last century between the established horse and carriage owners and the new fangled horseless carriage.

Which of course were initially electric. Took a decade or two for ICEs to come in

In 1897, the bestselling car in the US was an electric vehicle: the Pope Manufacturing Company’s Columbia Motor Carriage. Electric models were outselling steam- and petrol-powered ones. By 1900, sales of steam vehicles had taken a narrow lead: that year, 1,681 steam vehicles, 1,575 electric vehicles and 936 petrol-powered vehicles were sold. Only with the launch of the Olds Motor Works’ Curved Dash Oldsmobile in 1903 did petrol-powered vehicles take the lead for the first time.

I had a naysayer sneer at me on Twitter that electric cars were nothing new, they had them over 100 years ago but they failed to catch on.

Explaining the concept of "an idea whose time has come" and that necessary advances in battery technology had only recently been made, didn't seem to get through.

To be fair I have no idea what battery tech was like 1860's to 1900, but I recall milkfloats in the 70's and the awful range they had! Fit for what the were meant to do tho!

I lived in a mining village until I was 18. They still delivered 12 volt lead acid batteries for your radio and the milk floats were electric, huge great things.
I lived in a mining area in Wales, but the distances were too great and the hills to hilly for electric milkfloats. We were 10 miles from the nearest town. We did however have mains electricity!
