Ev or hev

Morning I have just took delivery of new mg3 hybrid trophy the car has only done approximately 150 miles but always seems to run on hev mode and very rarely goes into ev mode is this normal, this morning the car started in hev mode and we have driven a out 4 miles and the car has been in hev mode all the time and last night I did about 14 miles and apart from a out half a mile it again ran in hev mode is this normal I was expecting it to run in ev mode nearly all the time as nearly all our driving is around the town any ideas advice etc
I also have done a journey of 14 miles and the overall return was 67mpg. Who cares what mode it runs in, it's pennies in the pocket that count. Don't get all het up about it running in EV mode just enjoy the moments it does.

The MG3 has an internal combustion engine that behaves like any other internal combustion engine. In order to preserve it and keep it running efficiently, it needs to be at optimum temperature ESPECIALLY when the outside temperature is below 12°C.

I'm like you: I start the car in autumn/winter weather conditions and shortly afterwards the combustion engine starts up (like the starter on an old car). After 2 km, my fuel consumption on this route sometimes approaches 15 litres/100.
After 6 to 10 km, the combustion engine has reached its ideal temperature, the electric motors have done their job and my fuel consumption is now just 4-5 litres/100.

Only in summer and at temperatures above 12°C will you be able to drive up to 3 to 4 km on electric power alone, as long as you're driving at less than 70 km/h, on a fairly flat, level road and without air conditioning.

Finally, I suggest that you use ECO mode, regeneration on 2 and of course any abrupt or sporty driving and finally.... you'll see that your fuel consumption will be around 4.4 L/100.

You should also check your tyre pressure (at least once a month, as Kuomo tyres tend to lose a little more air than other tyres) and obtain a pressure of 2.6 bar instead of the 2.5 bar recommended.

Also alternate the type of fuel: 1 full E10, a full SP95 and finally a full SP98.

If you buy your fuel in the same shop, sometimes the quality of the fuel is not the same because of the additives used by the oil companies.

Unfortunately I already have 2.300 km and the consumption is 5.4L/100.
I drive very small distances and it goes very high. Example: 1 km distance ---> 14L/100 consumption. Is it normal? Should I worry?

Thanks for replying Italy
Short distances the combustion engine won't get up to optimum working temperature, especially in cold weather, also the battery will not have had a chance to charge. As Italy says, when the engines gets run in, it will improve, but it will always be less efficient in colder weather than when the days warm up. I regularly get 64mpg on longer runs in this weather and around 69 on the same runs when it was warmer a few weeks back. Mpg is also helped by looking ahead, anticipating and using acceleration sense.

My friend thank you so much! Your info was more than I expected! So, I guess the car is ideal for distances <10km and not for shorter. I already use regeneration on 2 and I start using ECO mode. I'll check the tires pressure as well and I'll get back to you!!
Thanks again
