Everything electric London

I'm in Harrogate now, at the show. The sun is splitting the sky and the ground is quite dry. I have a test drive booked in an X-Power at three. Currently wandering around wearing an MG baseball cap. A great day out.
I was under the impression you where going yesterday Rolfe but very glad you are have a good day.

I assume you will be driving it like you stole it? ;)

Little chance. First the friends who came with me wanted to come as passengers. Second, the road was quite busy. Third, I was nearly back when I realised the previous driver had left the thing in eco mode. Why? Just, WHY???

I did give it a bit of a gun in Sport at the end though, and I liked the OPD. Nice car, but for British roads, the SE SR is pretty capable anyway.

The most worrying thing was that a guy in a GivEnergy shirt, who was manning the GivEnergy stand, suddenly turned to my friend's husband in the lunch queue and exclaimed that EVs are the absolute worst thing for planet, horrible pollution. My friend's husband is a bit of a petrolhead and I'd brought him hoping to give him a better impression of EVs. He had already remarked to me that sales of EVs were falling off.

The GivEnergy staffer started going on and on about children digging cobalt out of the ground to make EV batteries, something he had apparently seen for himself. I informed him that my car has no cobalt in it, and asked if he drove a petrol car. No, he said, a diesel. I pointed out that cobalt is used in the desulphuration of petrol and diesel, so he was the one whose car relied on cobalt, not me. Made no difference, he went on spouting FUD.

It quite spoiled my afternoon. Especially as I had a GivEnergy battery and inverter installed just last week. I'm considering writing to the company.

That's not good, I'd also be unhappy if that had happened to me.

Cobalt is used in a ton of products we depend on outside transport too, it is not primarily an automotive product.
Yeah this cobalt obsession is absolutely weird isn't it? Not normal.

It's in every phone and laptop battery, used to refine petrol and diesel, but for some reason people accuse EV drivers of supporting slavery.

Like Rolfe I can just reply that my LFP battery car uses less cobalt than their petrol or diesel, but they clearly don't boycott all products with cobalt in.

People are such saps for this anti-EV propaganda. Same with heat pumps. Its almost as if there is a mass disinformation campaign aimed at selling as much gas and oil as possible!?!

That's really sad. It would be good to get some sort of feedback to the company. Even if it's just some feedback thing.

Sadly, any effect that the brainwashed employee gets will be interpreted as something like "Big EV is trying to silence me! But I'm too clever to fall for that, and the message is too important!". I find it fascinating how people can be led like this. Sometimes it can lead to tragic outcomes, like the Jonestown mass suicide. Or delaying the fight against global warming.

He’s not really “into” the job is he ?

Totally sad.
There's a CT nutter on our windsurfing forum, that spouts all sorts of rubbish, flat earth, twin towers, chemtrails. and anything renewable. We've tried for decades to enlighten him, but nothing has any done any good.
Seems the fossil fuel people are having a big effect.

That is absolutely shocking and I would definitely be feeding that back to both Givenergy, Fully Charged and Quentin Willson at FairCharge.

EVM (https://www.youtube.com/c/ElectricVehicleMan/videos) was on the Givenergy stand when I visited on Friday and I'm sure it wouldn't have been him.

I actually spoke to Quentin Wilson about it and pointed the man out to him, because the GivEnergy stand was more or less opposite the FairCharge stand.

I wish I'd snapped a picture of the guy, as I didn't see a name badge.

Yes, people who believe in conspiracy theories end up believing anything, and therefore nothing. I worry this nonsense is spreading rapidly in some circles online.

OK, here's the full image from the GivEnergy twitter account.

The culprit is the guy on the extreme right.

Unreconstructed FUD-merchant.

Thankfully I didn't speak to him on the Friday when I was there...I spoke with the other guy in a white shirt.
Strange seeing EVM (3rd from left at front) working for them as have followed him on Youtube since his early years with Leafs.
