Hi, does anyone know if you can switch off the flashing speed sign icon on the top left of the central information panel?

The car's sat-nav is convinced that much of the A9 is a 50 mph limit, which I need to use for south bound journeys on every occasion, although it's actually 60 mph on standard road and 70 mph on the dual carriageway sections.

So I get the annoying flashing icon, although I am driving within the regulations. As the A9 is a long road, it really is pretty wearing to try and ignore it for hours!

Any suggestions gratefully welcomed.

Do you have the latest software updates? I experienced a stretch of road like this today and it prompted me, but didn’t flash. The speed sign image was at the top left and below it there was a yellow warning triangle ⚠️ which when viewed on the warning screen said that a temporary speed had been detected.

Hi,

Just go into the car settings by pressing the little grey car icon and turn off the intelligent Speed warning thingy, that should do it.

Thanks, Yes, I was driving back from Frasers of Falkirk, having had the upgrade done. I think it was solid, just as you have explained for a while, but after a short stop, it seemed to revert back to the flashing icon.
With a handle like Portgordon, you'll know the road I'm referring to quite well, I assume.

 Indeed. That’s quite bizarre! I just drove back from Frasers of Falkirk today too! Having just collected the car, I was up the A90 to Aberdeen though (grew up in Portgordon)

To Frank - many thanks, that seems to have done it.

Great assistance, one of the reasons I joined the forum. Many thanks.
Dave,

No problems, see you came from Buckie. I worked at Kinloss Barracks on the SAR for a couple of years from 13-14, so know the area. Anyway glad it helped.

Frank

My car was flashing 40 MPH all the way up the A38 yesterday....its a fast dual carriage way.....it has recently had nighttime road works...but not much help.

@Dave S and @Frank and everyone else - top tip - if you put a @ symbol and then start typing someone's username, you can select it from a pop-up list of matching names and then when you post your message, they will get an alert (by default, but it can be turned off) letting them know that they have been mentioned. I think I know why my symbol wasn't flashing at me now....

It was my first drive home with the car and I needed as much range as possible so was sticking to or below the speed limits :geek: I can confirm from more recent drives that my car also flashes the speed symbol when I exceed what the car believes to be the speed limit. I don't think this one will bug me as much as the lane assist though and if there's a persistent piece of road like the A9 I might disable it.

I wonder if there's a way of submitting issues to the mapping provider the car uses, or is it purely bases on speed sign detection?

@Chrispydoc I had a message flash up on the screen yesterday saying something about temporary speed restriction in place, as I went through some urban, traffic lighted roadworks near me. There weren't any speed restrictions, as it was in a 30mph zone, so I wondered what it had seen to give me this message ?

I dont know...mine seem fairly random...I suspect historic....but it demeans the whole process really, if they are not very accurate.

Yes, I turned it off on the Prius it didn't read every sign and it sometimes reads the km/h limit signs on the back of continental lorries and puts it on the screen as mph. I noticed on the MG that we have to have the nav on the screen for it to verbally warn you if you're exceeding the limit too.

Darn - I spoke to soon!!!!!

Went down the A9 yesterday after implementing Frank's suggestion - FLASHING ICON.

I've emailed MG Motors to see if they can suggest how to turn it off. Will update you when I get a response.

Dave

According to the manual, you can turn it off in the settings but it defaults back to on each time you put the car in ready mode.

I got a reply from MG UK, just advising me to speak to my local MG dealership, as the helpdesk isn't trained for technical issues.

I had already spoken to the MG dealership last week on the subject and they couldn't offer advice either.

It's such a shame that a car which is very well equipped and offers so much for the driving experience, is caught up in systems the follow illogical process flows. It would be great if there was a default override, so you could restart the car with exactly the same set up as you left it.

But I'm still loving the car and the driving experience.
