I'm surprised his dad even let him behind the wheel on a night like that. At least it seems nobody was hurt.
When I did it I'd been driving for a couple of years, but there hadn't been a really bad winter. I'd taken dad's car to go up to the field where my pony was grazing, to check on him and feed him because the grass was snow-covered. I'd never driven on packed snow before.
I was surprised by how easily the car ran on the packed snow. On the way home I took a corner just that bit too fast and the inevitable happened. I was close enough to the farm I'd been visiting to walk back and explain what happened, and the farmer brought his tractor out to rescue me. My dad was ridiculously nice about it. I deserved a lecture about how we couldn't really afford this sort of expense, but he just chalked it down to "she knows what not to do now, and at least nobody was hurt."
