MG4 Luxury
Collected an MG 4 Luxury (Trophy LR) the other day. Haven't made any long trips or driven it too much just yet, but this far I'm very pleased with it! No issues, bugs or the like that many others have experienced (touch wood).

However, the car is using the R40 software. Before my purchase I got the dealer in writing tell me that all software will be the latest on delivery, which obviously didn't happen... After some back and forth he agreed to book me in at the workshop and personally make sure to perform the updates, however – according to him most updates are to fix specific flaws in some cars and doesn't recommend doing them unless there are known issues, as some of the updates may introduce new issues.

Is there really any truth to this? Are there known issues between R40 and R46 for example that suggests that I should hold of? I've tried to inform myself via the "MG4 Software Update Thread", but it seems to have derailed into all kinds of subject matters.

I am currently on R40 as well. Only picked up my car a couple of weeks ago. I am of the opinion that while it's working I will leave. If I start having issues then I will discuss the issues with them,

So why would you want a software upgrade if all is well?

Technically R40 is the latest general release software for the LR cars.

R46 is installed if you report certain problems (eg bluetooth connection issues) but garages aren't supposed to install it by default. R59 is the latest version we know exists, but this has apparently been held back from general release due to various bugs/issues with it.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification!

Yeah, I know R59 should be on it's way – however here in Sweden it never seems to have been rolled out at all before it was pulled/held back as in some other countries.

Such a weird software strategy, if they where purely bug fixes I would perhaps understand, but when features and UI are added and improved – wouldn't MG want everyone to have the best car possible?

Well well, went for a longer drive yesterday and everything seems to hold up this far ?
