MG4 Trophy ER
Firstly, hello to the group! I decided to jump into the world of electric cars, and my budget was sub 23k. After looking around, reading countless reviews and watching so many videos, I decided on an MG4. I was going to go for an SE, but with one eye on the second-hand market in three or four years I went for a Trophy. After test driving and hunting round the internet, and lots of patience, I managed to get a 73 plate (Oct 23) with less than 2k miles on the clock, ex mobility from a reputable dealer, the only issue being it was in Canterbury and orange (which was growing on me), and the wife was OK with it (main issue overcome).

So my first drive in my new car was 280+ miles from Canterbury to north of Preston, with a stop in Rainham in Kent to see family members. Buzzing around my head was all the horror stories, range anxiety, how to charge, where to charge, software bugs, lane assist issues, wind noise at speed, seats not comfortable on long drives, satnav bugs and DAB issues.

All this was put to bed on one journey. I charged only once at Rugby for about 30 mins. My only panic was when the charger connected but the car wouldn't charge. I tried another charger, same again, then I realised the payment had to be authorised on my mobile banking app! After 50 miles I tried out the software, speed limiters - traffic jam assist worked great, just trust it. (Still had my foot hovering over the brake.) One pedal driving was superb.

Is it perfect? No, no car is. It is damn good value without a doubt. You can wait to go electric, in the hope of the 15 min charge for 1,000 mile distance to arrive, or go hybrid and get 60 mpg. But if you want to rid yourself of changing gears, only be paying 1.6p per mile not 13-15p? I've been driving around town on fast A roads for 10 days averaging 4.6 per kWh. You can undertake a 285+ mile journey with only one 30-35min charge (enough time for a brew and burger) with no pollution, and have a good-looking car which is nice to drive. Throw in a 7 year warranty, and it can take my golf clubs and trolley - then just do it! If I can do it my 60s, anybody can.

(MG, if you're reading this, can we have a memory so we can save our settings, and why can't have a video recording function, with so many cameras? (PS I fitted a small IZEEKER cam behind the mirror for £19 off Amazon, so small you can't see it)

PPS apologies if my first post as spelling or grammar mistakes and is too long.

Edited by Rolfe. It's a great post and not too long, and now it has proper punctuation too. What's not to like? Welcome to the forum!

Having owned my SE SR for almost 18 months, my view of the car has not changed. It is a very good car indeed. And such an easy car to own and drive. It still represents excellent value for money.
One or two very minor annoyances, the latest being when my wife connects her Motorola phone to AA, the radio changes from 5live to sky news.

But we are both delighted with it.

Welcome to the board

Glad your enjoying your 4..
Mine is argh nearly a year and a half old.. (dont ask how many miles it now has...) and yeap bang for bucks - a great car ..

Just thought I would give a one month update of my EV experience , what a joy to drive the MG4 so far.
Range anxiety , couple of weeks ago my son in-law needed picking up at midlands airport at 1.00am ( refused boarding on his original flight, at 7pm.. stag party from Poland ) only got the call at 11pm , its a 180 mile round trip and i new it would be a fast drive , the car was only on 35% charge , waiting to charge overnight .Not a problem stopped once for 20 mins for a coffee and charge , came home with lots of range . Went to the lake district for 5 days with three dogs( cocker spaniels) , oh yeah and the wife came ....Packed a dog cage , two carry on bags , "stuff for the dogs " and other junk , no problems with room to spare. The hotel was 90 miles away , used the car and didn't need to charge bearing in mind 80% of the milage was at 70mph, with aircon on , traffic jam assist is a joy to use .
Currently achieving 4.6miles per KW , around town with 50mph A roads
Treated the car to a black MG front badge looks ok against the orange paint . Word of warning ordered a full boot liner off ali express for £39, as I play golf and travel with a muddy trolley , waste of money really bad fit , going back for free with my money returned
Niggly issues , I am knit picking , no memory for driving settings..... . slow screen start-up ( sometimes) occasionally picks up 20mph speed limits on side roads. LKA don't find it an issue , gives my nudge every now and again . Have read issues on other EV,s some are very similar . Really pleased , To sum up , putting all the above to one side and forgetting if the car is petrol, diesel, bio fuel etc , "its a NICE drive automatic" , rear wheel drive , responsive car you can have some fun in , very nippy , good looking good range and a nice place to sit in with a 7year warranty , lets not forget that when we are looking at the type of drive and looks we want .

Two month update on my MG4 ownership , issues ( nit-picking) don't like the talking welcome message but I miss it when she doesn't welcome's me on occasions with "have a nice day" typical woman . finally found out how to set the custom settings to my custom mode if that makes sense , the brake pedal force changes in different driving modes which i didn't like , always liked a firm pedal , so set it to sport mode in custom also to one pedal driving .
Averaging 4.5 KW per mile mixed driving compared to my friends who have other .EV's that's excellent.
Accessories , ordered a full boot liner from ali express , as i play golf and a muddy trolley can make a mess , waste of time , think i got one for a beamer it was so big , still looking for one though .... seat covers ordered a set with orange piping, mainly for the back seats , we have dogs so need some protection , great fit and look good .again from ali express. Black MG badge for the front off ebay , looks good ( car is orange, initially didn't want the colour but for the price second hand you can't be too picky , got to say its grown on me and her who must be obeyed likes it ).
All in all so far so good , and I will say it again its a nice drive , which is the main consideration for me , sporty when you need , relaxed when you want it to be and so economical .

Hi guys a bit lost , got the new seat covers , fit all of them bar the long bench at the back seat , can easily remove the back rest ( found info on the site) , but can't find a dam thing on how to remove the long bench , must be easy feels like it will pull away , but don't want to break it , ....thanks and how do i post a general question on the full site ......
