There are electric planes now. Very few, and the range is quite low. Also low cargo ability, if that's important.

Mmm, not sure, I'd trust an Electric Plane,
just yet.
If you run out of charge in an Electric car, it's inconvenient. But in a Plane, well....

just eject the batteries, that should give a much better glide ratio. Hopefully the batteries are at the center of lift and not down the back somewhere
