When I put my heated steering wheel on it never remains warm. Sometimes it goes cold completely and warms up slightly after a minute or two. Is this normal?

Mine cycles the heat, this is pretty standard for seat and steering wheel heating. Only goes cold once it is turned off

You might have an intermittent "clockspring" device that connects the many steering wheel switches and heater to the car, allowing the wheel to turn without breaking contact. Though maybe the steering wheel heater, being a higher current device, gets actual wires. So this may be a fixable fault.

Edit: This device also connects to the steering wheel airbag, so this is probably not a DIY job, unless you are very experienced at this sort of thing. Air bags contain explosives and are vital safety equipment.

Edit 2: The issue may also be an oxidised or loose connector or fuse. It could be worth checking the relevant fuse, and possibly cleaning the contacts and/or replacing the fuse.

Thanks everyone I appreciate your help. I'm going to get the car booked in for an auto hold issue soon so will ask them about the heated steering wheel. If I find out the fault I will update this thread.
